I also agree with recent posts The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is very underrated. The Green Mile is also one of my favourites.

hmm I cannot comment on this as I am yet to have read the girl who loved Tom Gordon. I am currently reading Salem's Lot and enjoying it a lot.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is definitely underrated but it's fantastic, his "less scary" works are often overlooked![]()
I can't say I've paid any attention to any critical reviews of Stephens' works (screenplays or otherwise). It would be difficult for me to rationalize that any that were made into movies were underrated. Book sales may offer a telling prospective in this reguard. I tend to think that some of the shorter storries from books like Night Shift, Four Past Midnight, Just After Sunset....ect, get lost in the bigger picture of his body of work. Many of those shorter stories I find fasinatingly interesting in a variety of ways. These great little gems seem to get lost in the shadow of books like The Stand, and something as grand a work as DT. To me anyway.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to read it in installments, plus I had seen the wonderful movie(one of my all-time faves). However, since I DID see the movie, I was able to visualize while reading in a way I never imagined before. It was a wonderful read even though I didn't get the full experience of the serial novel. And you guys are right: I feel as if it is underrated as well. As you guys said, many people are flabbergasted when they find out that SK even wrote The Green Mile (as well as Shawshank). I know at least 3 people who love these movies and didn't have an inkling about King. I guess your average Joe thinks King's repertoire consists entirely of blood and guts.
