I teach science and always recommend this book after teaching the Protist Kingdom, due the amoebic dysentery she gets. We debate this all the time but would like to know how others take it. papdaytona

dunno for sure...king philip sent out for good spaghetti?....that sorta thing? oh be a fine girl kiss me....rocks, i think...i opt for sleep...never considered something like what you propose, but it sounds intriguing...thank you...next read, i'll keep it in mind....![]()
I'm pretty sure she just goes to sleep. I think that she pointed to the sky to show that she was safe and that the worse is "game over".![]()
She goes to sleep and not the eternal one either, it's just "Game Over" for the "Wood Series"...
I've just finished this book and I interpreted it as Trisha falls asleep . What makes you so sure she has amoebic dysentery?
I think it's a very clever ending, as its obviously left to the mind of the reader to how they interpret the end.
Throughout the book I was begging for SK to keep the girl alive, after all that struggle, I couldn't bear to think about her dying.
So I interpreted the ending as she just went to sleep. And the 'Game Over' was just the end of her struggle through the woods.
Yes, at first I thought-Thank God she made it! & I cried w/relief! Then, I thought-what if she didn't live? What if she ended up dying after being saved? Then I felt so sad....but I reread those last couple of pages again & again, & I do believe she survived, just fell into a long, deserving, comfortable sleep surrounded by her loved ones, probably dreaming about Tom Gordon.
Don't know about the dysentery, but if memory serves me correctly S.K. kills her off with an offhand statement near the end of another book. Black House I think. (Cruel and unneccessary I thought, but oh well.) So, she must have lived through TGWLTG. I'm sure someone will correct this if needed.
I just finished this story. She didn't die at the end.She pointed to the sky like Tom Gordon, thanking God for the win and then got some much needed rest.IMO
