I took my two daughters (ages 4 and 2 and a half) to see "Toy Story 3" yesterday. I really liked it but I'm a little surprised the MPAA ratings board gave it a "G". For me a G should mean totally safe to have ALL kids watch (hence the term "General audiences"), but some of the scenes towards the end were WAY too intense for a G. I don't want to post any spoilers but you'll know which scene I'm talking about. Both of my kids were very frighteneed. This wasn't a matter of hiding your eyes from the Wicked Witch or anything like that--this was a long, scary scene.
I'm not really worried about a movie permanently traumatizing my kids or anything like that, but I am disagreeing with the ratings board. I would like to think those ratings mean something. I'm guessing Disney pushed them pretty hard to give it a "G". After all it's a business and a lot of money is at stake, and being computer animation it's not like they can easily change the movie once it's done to get a better rating. I'm thinking a studio with less clout (or an independent film) would not have gotten a "G".
Did anyone else see this movie, especially those with young kids? What did you think?
