I just posted a list of what's apparently in some stage of development via the New Movie Buzz blog:
- Haven – Based on the novella The Colorado Kid,
- Bag of Bones – Mick Garris (The Shining, The Stand, Desperation) said that this mini-series “will hopefully be shooting late-spring, early-summer.” Announcement is expected soon concerning which network will air the mini-series.
- Pet Sematary
- Home Delivery
- It
- Under the Dome
- From a Buick 8
- The Talisman
- The Dark Tower - In April 2010, it was reported that The Dark Tower may be adapted into a trilogy and a television series. Negotiations are ongoing at this point. Akiva Goldsman will write with Ron Howard producing and directing.
- Cell - four hour mini series to be written by John Harrison (Dune miniseries).
Bonus:
- Throttle - A Father and son from a biker gang battle a trucker in the desert.A novella written as a collaboration between Stephen King and his son Joe Hill. Producer Nick Wechsler (The Road) optioned the rights in 2008 with a plan to bring it to the big screen.
- Black House – Sequel to The Talisman featuring a grown up Jack Sawyer. This one is listed as “In Production” on Internet Movie Database, but if The Talisman project doesn’t move forward don’t hold out much hope for it’s sequel.
What do people think? I'm not sure that Black House needs the Talisman. I think there MIGHT be ways to tell the story of young Jack in flashback.
I also think From a Buick 8 and Cell have a ton of potential for film treatment.
I'm worried about Under the Dome, though. So sprawling, so large, so easily uncontrolled.
Also worried about Bag of Bones. I worry that the "soapier" aspects of the story will be played up and turn it into a weeper. What makes that a great book (IMO) is the razor edge between the love story / love stories (because it's really two love stories, one between Mike & Jo and one between Mike & Mattie) and the horror.
