Default New Stephen King productions, according to New Movie Buzz

I just posted a list of what's apparently in some stage of development via the New Movie Buzz blog:

    1. Haven – Based on the novella The Colorado Kid,
    2. Bag of Bones – Mick Garris (The Shining, The Stand, Desperation) said that this mini-series “will hopefully be shooting late-spring, early-summer.” Announcement is expected soon concerning which network will air the mini-series.
    3. Pet Sematary
    4. Home Delivery
    5. It
    6. Under the Dome
    7. From a Buick 8
    8. The Talisman
    9. The Dark Tower - In April 2010, it was reported that The Dark Tower may be adapted into a trilogy and a television series. Negotiations are ongoing at this point. Akiva Goldsman will write with Ron Howard producing and directing.
    10. Cell - four hour mini series to be written by John Harrison (Dune miniseries).

    Bonus:

    • Throttle - A Father and son from a biker gang battle a trucker in the desert.A novella written as a collaboration between Stephen King and his son Joe Hill. Producer Nick Wechsler (The Road) optioned the rights in 2008 with a plan to bring it to the big screen.
    • Black House – Sequel to The Talisman featuring a grown up Jack Sawyer. This one is listed as “In Production” on Internet Movie Database, but if The Talisman project doesn’t move forward don’t hold out much hope for it’s sequel.

What do people think? I'm not sure that Black House needs the Talisman. I think there MIGHT be ways to tell the story of young Jack in flashback.

I also think From a Buick 8 and Cell have a ton of potential for film treatment.

I'm worried about Under the Dome, though. So sprawling, so large, so easily uncontrolled.

Also worried about Bag of Bones. I worry that the "soapier" aspects of the story will be played up and turn it into a weeper. What makes that a great book (IMO) is the razor edge between the love story / love stories (because it's really two love stories, one between Mike & Jo and one between Mike & Mattie) and the horror.

Thanks for the information on the latest movies of Stephen King that are in some kind of progress. I will be excited to know if the new IT that is in a stage of development will be better or worse than the older version. I also think Cell will make a great movie!

I don't understand why Cell has to be a four-hour mini-series. It could be a theatrical release. I think the only time that a Stephen King novel should be made into a mini-series is when the novel is seven hundred pages or more. Otherwise, it just seems unneeded.

The mini-series has its ups and downs. 4 hours is longer than a movie would be. But that would only be a 4 episode series, assuming each episode is an hour long which seems rather short for a mini-series.

Thanks for the info, I am looking forward to Cell, I don't mind the mini-series approach, gives them more time to make it closer to the book, even a 300 plus page book could end up being three hours long....I kinda hope the movie gives more info on where the Pulse came from..... Cell - four hour mini series to be written by John Harrison (Dune miniseries).
I've had in June an interview with John Harrison and this is wat he told me about the Cell.

I spent some months in 2009 developing a miniseries adaptation of "Cell" for the Weinstein Company, but that fell through.

At the moment, I'm no longer involved. I developed a tv miniseries adaptation for the Weinstein Company at the beginning of 2009 after they decided not to go forward with it as a movie.

Although Bob Weinstein really liked my take on it, the company didn't move forward fast enough on setting it up with a network. Their option on the book expired and Steve decided to go a different direction.

I still think it would make a fantastic tv miniseries. There are so many ways to explore that story. It's got great characters, a really compelling theme, and some of the scariest moments I think Steve's ever written. Ah well....
