    Default Something I've been wondering....

With the success of DC straight to DVD animated movies, I've wonder why hasn't Mr. King's books been given the same treatment? I watched the online version of N and enjoy it greatly. I would love to see some of his other stories in animated form. I know that The Dark Tower series are being developed as a live action movie but I would love to see it in anime form. The comic already sets the standard and tone so a animated version would not be that hard. What do you think?

I'm no fan of anime-rather have the artists involved with the Marvel DT series handle it, if something like this were done...

I don't like the idea of Sai King's stories being animated.

I say that to have the tower series annimet woul still kill the imagination of the book reder. and then to see this as such would have to be done in a japanimation for fore it would only be buttered by those of our own annimets. regardless I couldn't watch it eather way cause I get lost in the story with my own imagnation and get a great interpersonal picture show with my own reading.
sorry to disagree with you but I hope you would feel the same if you were to open your own imagination while you read it agin.

I'm not denying that the books are better in the minds eye than on screen, most books often loose a lot of the imagery that the author has written into the stories when transposed to the screen, but many of the straight to DVD movies that were based on Mr. Kings work have unfortunately been less than spectacular. As for the anime reference, I'm looking more at the unadulterated version that most anime is known for. I believe the look and style should be close to the recent comics as possible. Also on a side note, Marvel has released animated straight to DVD movies that have done well, not just DC. Thought I throw that in there because Marvel releases The Dark Tower and The Stand comics.

    Kingfan
    I agree
And unless King objects for some reason I think they should be looking into this more than they are trying to make it a motion picture because an animated film could handle his vision much better than any film studio could (especially in these economic rough waters)
The film version which supposedly is being adapted now will NOT be able to leave in as much of the books as an animated film could (plus the fact an animated film could handle the multiple locations and creatures needed better than trying to do the same thing in live action)

A film crew/cast/director would have far too many things in the pipeline that could go wrong in the middle of adapting the books. The main actors may decide not to continue their roles. (because i doubt any actor is going to sign up for an extended several year film shoot on location (Lord of the Rings was a very rare exception) And trust me- even by filming several of the books at once, it would take a year or more to put books one through four on film let alone all seven. Plus there could be accidents or death of a key actor along the way as well as possible upcoming writer/director/actor strikes that might hold up production. (Example: Look at how the MGM financial crisis is holding up Hobbitt and Bond 23)
Plus the budget would be astronomical (we're talking well into 350 million bucks)
The only down side would be picking which animation studio would be able to handle such a large scale project for a decent enough of cost to make it worth it (since as we all know...there just ISN'T enough of the core DT fan base (VS the rest of the larger King fanbase that buys the NON-Dark Tower material) As much as you all may not like those facts, that is what Hollywood worries aboutt he most: The Bottom Line. If there isn't enough backend cashflow potential, the project will never get a green light.

Only if Warner Bros. unlocked the doors and dusted out the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies fun factory.
The possibilities make my head hurt.

    Well, why not?

You guys remember that they made a whole animated movie out of Pink Floyd`s album " The Wall" ?
And I found it to be rather fantastic.
If they can do that ( and with that technology they had back in the day ) with a music album, why wouldn`t it be at least worth a try to do the same with some of Sai King`s stories and books?
Heck, they do the comic series anyway, what`s the big difference between the still and the moving pictures ?

I'm not a fan of comics or of animated movies.....but that's just me.

I know that lots of people enjoy both......different strokes for different folks, as the saying goes
