I put down the book for five minutes on the weekend ...started looking at old photos my Mom had kept ...found a nice one of her standing beside a 50's Buick ...3 portholes ...cool as hell.
I really like this book ...the characterization Mr.King is just sooo good at ...I want to be in Troop D(well, maybe..), and I really liked Sandy's interior voice about Ned ...his youth ..his need to know, and that anger some of us have at the young for being young. I find myself trying to be a better man when I'm reading SK ...not out of his judgment of behavior but moreso the knowledge of what is right, and the actions of characters in light of this ...
We all know the gray scale of right and wrong but we lie to ourselves ...some people make that harder to do, and I'm glad for it.

Hokey-Dokey PCF, I'll give it a whirl. My take on the ending was that the car was the focal point of a "thinny"(definition elsewhere on this MB)-or a "gateway" if you will to one of King's oft mentioned "other worlds". But I never got the idea it was "dying", maybe had just been used up as a portal-then it would be just a cool looking Buick, with a "checkered" past if you will...

because at the end Ned Wilcox gets the Sargent and tells he wants him to take a good look at the car and he doesn't see it right away then Ned tells him there is a crack in the windshield of the Buick 8 then the narrator says that the muffler falls off and every other part of the car starts to come off, that's where i get that from so I interpreted that the car was dying because Ned Wilcox sat inside the drivers seat wanting to torch the car and go to the other side of it to see what was there and then wanted to destroy whatever was on the other side, u didn't catch the crack on the windshield part ?

I wish the Buick 8 would be a movie they could easily make into a movie and they would have great actors for it, I think it would be as good as a movie as it was a book or better because u can see the things happening.

Yeah, I thought with the cracked windshield, and other damages to it meant it was 'dying' or losing it's power. Before, it was able to repair itself...
