Scarecrow? possible spoilers included.

Hello,
I completed the book and really enjoyed it, but I was confused about the scarecrow. Scarecrow with the "Play that dead band music" T Shirt and the dr. Seuss hat. I thought it was going to have more signifigance since it not only came up in a hallucination, but also the sisters were very afraid of it as well. Did I miss somehting?

Scarecrows are just damned scary by nature, and I took it as a not so veiled reference to the "scarecrow" in Children of the Corn...

The ScareCrow Could have been a very shaded reference to John Mellencamp's CD of the same name...They mentioned A mellencamp Album in the Book. Slightly disappointed in no Springsteen reference though.

I took it as a sign the leather heads had set up, they obviously tapped into what humans found scary to warn them from the box.
