    Default Coincidence; or plagiarism?

I read a novel some time back which featured the following:

A group of kids who attack, and almost destroy, a shape-changing demon which has terrorised a part of the country for centuries, returning only every couple of dozen years to feast on the souls of its victims.

The kids do not remember it at all.

One member of the group stays in the town where it happened.

Many years later, the others are drawn back.

    The terror re-commences.

They again face the demon, in a cave, during a huge storm brought on by the demon.

All the way through, I was struck by how amazingly similar the story is to It. The book, Bane, was published quite some years after It.

Has anyone else noticed, or has this been discussed before? I searched, but didn't see anything likely, so thought I'd open up for others' opinions.

It's probably not flat out plagiarism, to be kind(yes, once in a while, I can be that way-in touch with my feminine side(oooh that's soft and nice...))it's possibly an homage-but the cynical and snide part of me says that author wanted to publish without having to come up with a viable idea of their own(sort of like "reality" TV, only in print)...

Do you have any more information about that book? Author, publishing date, something? Out of curiosity I tried to find it. Can't find anything with that title. Many that have Bane as one of the words in their title, with story synopsis' very different from yours, but none only called Bane.

Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, all have no clue that it exists. The only Bane I found, just that single word, was a character from Batman comic books.

I believe that it's this book: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Bane_Joe_Donelly__Review_5034704 Bane, by Joe Donnelly, a Scottish writer. He's apparently been called the UK's Stephen King. Gonna try to track down a copy and read it. Superficially, the plot does sound similar.

It's only natural that some story lines resurface.
But when gender, location, little details are changed, it's not plagiarism.

Of course, it doesn't reflect well on the author of this book, that he just rehashed and molded an already awesome story into a cheap ripoff. The nerve! As if it would go by unnoticed! Sheesh

Some cicadas spend years underground and only appear every 17 years. Some American Indians thought their periodic appearance had an evil significance. Indian folklore might (I'm saying might cause I really don't know, I'm just guessing) have somewhat influenced both authors when they created their demons that only appear every so many years. Cicadas do terrorize and feast.
