    Default James Herbert

I am loving james herbert at the moment!!! I bought a few of his books, and so far i have read The Magic Cottage which i thoguht was actually amazing! It is now on my all time favourite books! Then i read Haunted and now im reading the sequel The Ghosts Of Sleath which i am totally addicted to! Since buying The Magic Cottage i must have bought about 10 other Herbert Books including The Rats which i am going to read after TGOS, Anyone else love James Herbert?!

    Hi,

Yes, I do, although I prefer his early work to his more recent output.

I came in here ready to say how much I enjoyed "Dune" as both book and movie, but that I couldn't get into the other parts of the series.

I guess there's a difference between Frank and James.

Imagine my embarassment if I posted such a message. Therefore, like the vast majority of the posts I type, I will not hit the "Make it So" button.

    OOPS!

I really like The MAgic Cottage, and Haunted was okay. But for a really good read, try Sepulchre. That was my favorite James Herbert book, after the Magic Cottage.

No, I've never heard of him. The wiki article john posted makes him sound like it might be my cup of tea. I'll check him out, thanks for the tip.

I got to meet him a couple of months when he was a Guest of Honor at World Horror in Brighton. A real gentleman. He signed for two hours, sipping absinthe the whole while.

    Hi,

Yeah, I've got all of his books to date, plus a couple of biographies and the like. Have to agree with JD, though: his earlier stuff (pre-Portent) was better than the stuff since. IMO, Creed was his last really good effort, though even some of the later works have their moments.
My personal fave is probably Sepulchre, though the three 'Rats' books (The Rats, Lair, Domain) run it close.
