My very first post, and it is going to be a negative reviewI have grown up with Stephen King. My first SK read was when I was 13 and it was Pet Semetary. A truly frightening and just about perfect story. Actually had to make sure the closet door was closed tight while reading it. That being said, I waited and waited for this book to come out in paper back (Less expensive and easier to read in bed) but couldn't wait any longer. Perhaps in these trying times, I want or need a positive picture of humanity. This book just depressed me. The hero and his crew of dissidents were victimized the whole book and then never really did anything heroic. In fact the story was resolved by the heroes begging for their lives just to survive. Big Jim Rennie, on the other hand, seemed to be so all powerful that it became absurd and ultimately unbelievable. Stephen King is the best writer in the last 50 years. Believable characters pushed to achieve unbelievable things, are his bread and butter. Jack Sawyer and Stu Redman come to mind. This one book won't keep me from the next one. Steve has the ability to surprise and inspire. Perhaps a sooner paperback release date would be my only wish
