For some reason I had a picture of Nick Nolte in my mind. I have no idea why, I know Jim was actually a large man, but for some reason Nick Nolte kept popping into my mind. Great book, and great characters. Although I wish

Like an even more portly Rush Limbaugh type, and as a Nurse-a well dressed MI or stroke waiting too long to happen...(would you buy a used car from this heart attack in Hugo Boss?)
I thought of George Wendt. "Norm" from the sitcom "Cheers."
Only because I have seen the "King of the Ants" movie a few times. Otherwise I could never have pictured him in that role.
well, just now, maybe the nick nolte ref did it--dunno why as this evangelist from long ago and far away looks nothing like him--but just now, reading your starter, that's who stood up in the crowd of my memory. intuition always spoke over my shoulder and suggested i keep a weather eye on him...that seemed to be a trend at that place, keeping on eye on people, or lacking that, word of mouth... nobody famous. when i was reading it there were various people i likened him to, again, none of them known to others, no one you're likely to see while in the checkout line, but that only lasted until a neck twist and by then, big jim stood all alone...tried to see him as ole dick cheney, but that guy is about as appealing as brussels sprouts, although at times, when he (jimbo) was on camera, yeah, i could see a connection.
Hi,
Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!
I'd kinda pictured him more like John Goodman myself.
Long days and pleasant nights
I detested Jim Rennie so I picture him as either, Dick Cheney or Glenn Beck.
George Wendt, John Goodman. What's the difference =)
Initially I saw him as a young (1975) version of George Kennedy (that actor from the Eiger Sanction), but I also got a bit of Dennis Franz vibe, but like the some others have commented by the end of the novel I really felt Rennie was fashioned after D. Cheney.
Regarding D. Cheney.
