Default Carrie Movie: 1976 version or 2002 version?

Okay, everyone. Carrie is definetly my favorite novel by Stephen King it is so realistically terrifying. I've seen both movies of Carrie, the 1976 version with Sissy Spacek as Carrie (she was perfect for the role!) and the 2002 TV version, with Angela Bettis as Carrie White. Anyway, I was just wondering your opinion. Which version do you like better? Which version is more accurate to the real novel? I noticed more accurate things in the 2002 version, like Carrie stopping her mother's heart with Telekinesis. But she didn't try to drown her in the bathtub in the novel as she did in the 2002 version.
I'd LOVE to have Stephen King answer this thread and tell me what version is thought was better

    Don't stop writing, Stephen King!

Dude, I gotta tell ya, neither one did the novel justice IMHO. As you say, both had elements of the story right-but they just didn't get it done...

I agree that neither one was close to the novel but I liked the original move a lot more than I liked the novel. I guess I just don't like journal style stories, and the book Carrie wasnt the typoe of person Id usually root for.

I like the 1976 version. Sissy Spacek was brilliant as Carrie.

I agree, I love the original version the best out of the two.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! - I never knew there was a 2002 remake!

Spacek was great in the role, but the movie, like the majority said didn't give it enough jusitce

I found Carrie's mom in the '76 version to be very obnoxious, but I guess maybe that was the point.

I'd like to see the remake though, and the original wasn't too bad.

I too, like you Johnathan, love "Carrie". I think it is one of Mr. King's best works. I am not, though, like a lot of his other fans in the respect that I don't knit-pick and differentiate between all the versions of each of King's works. So, for me, I lump all of the incarnations of "Carrie" together. Having said that, if I had to pick - if I were forced to pick - I would say that the 1976 film version is my favorite. I love it. I think that the acting, the direction, the film as a whole is just amazing. I believe that the original film had a feel to it that was lacking in "The Rage" and in the NBC version as well. Yes, it is dated, but who cares I love it. There are a lot of glaring differences between the 1976 version and the 2002 version. The main one is that Carrie lives at the end of the NBC film. This was because the people at NBC had intended to turn "Carrie" into a series had the film done well. Therefore, this version of "Carrie" was mainly a set-up to let audiences know about Carrie's past and let the ending be a start to her future. So, if you take a lot of things into consideration [which I am not going in to depth about here] the NBC telefilm is not bad, especially when you look at it as a television series pilot and at the fact that this version followed the novel more closely. Yet, like I said, if I had to choose between the two I would surely pick the 1976 version. What would our lives and collections be without it? [LOL]
