No, I think he didn't tell her because his adult perception of what ghost are and how he was utterly terrified about what was happening to him may have put a damper on the perception of a child and the way they look at things with such blind faith.
Was that the case? I kind of have ADD sometimes, but I perceived it in a totally different light. *spoilers, son!* I thought that he had given it up to kind of "pursue" his life, kind of dropped it like a bad habit, for lack of a better description.
