Hope I Made the Right Choice

I am just now finishing Bag of Bones and Im loving it. I am going to start reading The Stand tomorrow. So I hope I made the right choice when I picked this instead of the Dark Tower series. Any input?

Yup, The Stand is a remarkable novel, the greatest of the 20th century IMO, and you'll be glad you've read it when you get to the Dark Tower cycle.

I think you've made the right choice. I did the same thing myself. Actually, The Stand was the first book I read. I read the first 3 DT's years ago, then waited until late last year to start them over and read them all through from 1 thru 7. I don't want to give anything away, but once you do read the DT's, you will understand why The Stand should be read first. You may want to read Salems Lot before the DT's as well. But thats just my opinion...

Its a matter of personal preference, but I'd have done the same.

I agree with the other posters... I'd read The Stand before Dark Tower too There's a bit of a slow part in the 2nd tenth of the book but don't worry, it picks back up again

Thanks I just finished Bag of Bones and the opening of The Stand is brilliant. I especially loved the Bruce Springsteen lyrics and the Blue Oyster Cult lyrics in the beginning.

Either way, really. I read The Stand about 20-25 years ago. I forgot most of it over time and had stopped reading fiction all together over the past 10 years. Then, I picked up the DT series last year and sped through it...it was like a drug. Then, I read Insomnia (not very impressed with that one) and now I'm re-reading The Stand. I'm enjoying it immensely.

I don't think it matters which you read first or even if you choose to read both. They're both good stories in their own right.

Well im no expert or anything but this is an amazing choice. I just finished the stand yesterday and I loooved it. Have never really been a huge reader(25r yr old male here), and this book probably will turn me into one. I was planning on reading shutter island next(because i want to see the movie and would much rather read first and watch 2nd as opposed to other way around), but I had such a great time with the stand I may go right into the dark tower series.

You cannot go far wrong with Dennis Lehane. He is an outstanding writer.
