This place, where time and the world have moved on, reminds me of Afghanistan. I am currently deployed here and during my travels here have seen several remnants of a world long lost to the sands of time. old gas stations, buildings, hunks of metal that used to be trucks cars and planes. I do not know if Stephen King has ever been here, i am assuming not, but he did a real good job of describing this place.
On a seperate note, i want to thank Mr. King for his fabulous writings. there are several fans of his writing currently depolyed with me, and i think we have managed to work our way through a little north of 30 of his books, including The Dark Tower series. Thank you Mr. King and please continue to provide us with amazing doorways into the fiction world.
Just found this thread and I want to take a moment to thank you for your service! I appreciate what you do every day. I understand and appreciate the sacrifices you and your family make. My husband spent 3 1/2 months in Saudi many years ago...now most deployments are so much longer. Stay safe...
Your description of Afghanistan really could come from a King book, couldn't it? I hope you continue to enjoy King's books - I've been reading them for 34 years now, and they have become a huge part of my life. I"m glad you joined the MB - it's a friendly place to be!
Mr. USMC. First let me say thankya for all that you, and all the service men and women do for us back home. You are all in my prayers and I wish you long days and pleasant nights. I hope that Mr. Kings books take you away (in imagination) from all that you see. His descriptions are vivid and terrifying, but his vision of the Gunslinger and his Ka-tet do remind me of the men and women serving our country. Heros all. Bless you and yours. Stay safe and come home.
I know I'm not the first to say this... but thankee sai for fighting the good fight and keeping us enjoying our freedoms back here at home. I wish you a safe journey to your own tower and wish you to hurry home safely.
There's nothing else really that I can say here that my fellow Constant Readers haven't said before me...
That is interesting imagery - I'm sure that it has to be somewhat surreal to be wandering through landscapes that sound so much like that in the book.
And I'm obviously not the first here to say this - hopefully not the last - but thank you for your service and your sacrifice. My uncle is retired corps - you all do incredible work. Semper fi.
