J.J Abrams has lost the rights to Stephen King's "Dark Towers".It's new owners? Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman - and they've much more ambitious plans for the property than the "Lost" creator ever did.
The "Da Vinci Code" trio are planning on a feature film version of the book series, with a TV series to possibly follow.
Abrams gave the rights to the fantasy western back to King once he realized he wouldn't be able to do the series justice.
Says Heat Vision, "King's magnum opus, "Tower" encompasses not just a narrative about the Man in Black and Roland, the Gunslinger, that spans seven lengthy books (and one short story), but also the entire universe of King's fiction. Characters from his other novels flit in and out of "Tower" in minor and major ways.''
Great book series, if you haven't read them - stop by the library on your way to work tomorrow.
Some interesting news if it is true. Clint Howard is a shoe in to play Gasher!
WOW! This could be very cool. Can we get full confirmation from Marsha?

Not sure how long the three films would be but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. OTOH, they also hint at a TV series and I'm not too fond of that idea.
Thoughts?
Just saw this info and didn't know if everyone had heard about this or not. The writer of BATMAN AND ROBIN and LOST IN SPACE to write THE GUNSLINGER. Um, crap?

I bet with Ron Howard attached they get Clint for Roland
Please inform King that I would be forever grateful if he didn't allow these movies to be made. EVER! Thanks, your loyal fan
Gee, maybe if Ron Howard directs-good old Sheriff Taylor can help Roland catch the "bad guy". Barney would be useless though when gunplay was involved-Mr. One Bullet hisself ya know...I just pray to Gan, the Prim-whatever-if this happens it happeneth most good!
This will either be incredibly epic or a terrible mistake, I seem to feel this whole thing fits for the series though, just like in the books where king didn't want to wright the tale nobody wants to make the movie...
