Default Computer Speak. What Phrases Or Terms Do You Know And Are Willing To Share?

    Hi!
When the great new thread "Hijack This Thread" I didn't understand "hijack"
When people used the term "flame thrower" I had to look it up.
I was so happy when I learned what a "sock puppet" was.
Do you know any phrases, terms, words that would enlighten us?

Ohhh, you didn't mean how I speak to it did you....sorry.

Sigmund, Until I came here I didn't know what Todash meant. Sock puppet and flame thrower are lost on me as well. Hopefully, by the time this thread is done I will know LOL

I've been using the interweb since before Al Gore gave birth to it.

I am now old enough to be technologically inadequate and not care. Refreshing!

"Todash." Hmm. "Toad Dash?" Was King reading some of Sammy Clemens's short stories when he came up with that one?

Dinosaur- describes my knowledge of computer speak. And why are "help" directions written in technical terms? They might as well be written in Greek. Common terms, please.

Well, I did a word diary about internet acronyms and terms. Here are a few:

    • You may have run into all your base are belong to us in message boards or chatrooms. It stems from a Japanese video game called Zero Wing, which became a geek hipster joke and eventually went mainstream.

    • The anonymity of the 'Net can allow some people to become belligerent and mean. This gives rise to the flame. Flame wars are vicious arguments that can sometimes crop up. Someone who posts intentionally nasty comments is said to be flame baiting, or trying to instigate a flame war.
    • Computer programmers use the word foo as a place marker or test (as in naming a test file). From this grew foobar which has the same meaning as the acronym FUBAR but involving computers or the Internet. The past-tense is foobed and the verb is foob.
    • Everyone has had the experience of waiting while your computer processes or loads something and seems to take forever to do so. This is time spent in graybar land.
    • Do you pop onto the 'Net several times a day to check your e-mail or check headlines? You are infosnacking.
    • Meatloaf is those jokes, funny pictures, info lists and so on that is sent by folks you know.
    • Someone over 50 who uses the Internet is a silver surfer.(guilty as charged)
    • Someone who thrives on crisis is a stress puppy.
    • We often speak of something going viral; spreading like a virus. Information, gossip or rumor that spread this way is known as word-of-mouse.

    Totes McGoats
A phrase blurted out when one person is in agreement with another person. It is usually replaces "I agree" or "That is a favorable statement that tickles me in a way that I enjoy" in a conversation. A user of this phrase is commonly blind drunk and likes everything at the time of the phrase usage, which leads to a overwhelming over use of the phrase in a small span of time. A bout of "Totes McGoats" usually ends with passing out cold or is impeded by vomit, disallowing the audible usage of the phrase or any other coherent words.
    Subject A - "I love you man!"
    Subject B - "Totes McGoats!"
Subject A - "But not in a gay way, not that there is anything wrong with that"
Subject B - *Inaudible response due to vomiting

    Marijuana Minute
A seemingly long period of time. It occurs most often when under the influence of marijuana due to the altered state of mind. An actually short moment may seem to drag on forever.
    Similar to: New York Minute
Dude, that speech lasted a marijuana minute.
    -Charlie
I know, I kept wondering if it was going to ever end
    -Michael
