Did you ever have someone argue with you when you told them they dialed the wrong number? Then they ask you what number they dialed - like you should know. Some even have the nerve - after giving me a hard time - to ask me if I know the correct number - no, I am not 411.
I talk to people on the phone all day. Here are some tips for making better calls:
> If there is a screaming baby in the room, go to another, quiet room, or take care of the baby, then make your call.
> Do not mumble.
> If you are calling me, do not carry on a conversation with someone else at the same time - it confuses things (and me.)
> Do not call me from the bathroom - that is just rude.
> If you are calling from your car, do not open the door while the keys are in the ignition - that darn dinging is quite loud.
> SPEAK UP.
> If your name has 12 consonants and only one vowel, I will need you to spell it for me.
> Do not eat while you are talking. You are hard enough to understand when your mouth is as empty as your head.
> Be wary of pocket dialing.
> Your area code, not your zip code.
> You do not know me well enough to call me that.
> Do not use that tone of voice with me - I am not the enemy.
> Know what you want before you dial - I cannot always figure it out for you.
> It is my job to take your message, so it is alright to give me your name and phone number.
> Have a nice day, jerk!
"Did you ever have someone argue with you when you told them they dialed the wrong number?"
This happened to us after moving to a different state 7 years ago. We had a new number, obviously, and apparently the person who had it before us did not pay her bills. We would get 3-4 calls a day from different companies looking for this woman, and they didn't believe us when we told them that phone number now belonged to someone different than they were looking for. One person in particular got very rude and loud with my husband on one of these calls, so my husband finally said to the person, "What color underwear are you wearing?" She got very quiet and told him she couldn't tell him that information. He kept at her though, and she finally hung up. Crude way to deal with it? Yes, absolutely! But after dealing with this daily for about 6 months, we were kind of at the end of our rope!! We did end up just calling the phone company and explaining the situation and they gave us yet another new number. We still laugh over that from time to time, and wonder if they ever found the woman they were looking for!!
I don't have a land line in my home for a couple of reasons, and one of the benefits of having only a cell phone is that only people I want to talk to have my phone number. This, however, does not prevent wrong numbers.
I have been getting voice-mail messages (in Spanish) from some unknown person for almost four months now.
I'm curious as to how long this person is going to continue calling my number without getting any response at all.
I also get calls from collection agencies from someone who either had my number before or simply made up a phone number when filling out credit applications. As you may expect, the debt collectors do not believe me when I tell them I have never heard of her.
So much for my grand plan of eliminating annoying phone calls from my life.

Sorry if this has been discussed already (and if so, can someone tell me where). Has any one seen the promos for The Walking Dead new series on AMC? I don't particularly like zombies but this might be cool. BTW AMC is rocking with horror movies all month.
Hi Sig, I'm psyched up for that Walking Dead show too! We talked a bit about it on the "Zombies!" thread. I can't wait for it!
OHHH pick me pick me...I saw the previews for the "Walking Dead" series and looks awesome!
I was dropping my son off at school. A group of kids came over while he's getting all his things together. One young woman asked my son," What kind of an animal does a veal grow up to be?" We both started laughing. He put his arm around her shoulder and said, "You are so cute."
