I watched Dolan's Cadillac with Christian Slater and Wes Bentley last night. The movie wasn't great, but it also wasn't bad. Christian Slater stole the film with his over-the-top Jack Nicholson impersonation. He did, however, do a good job of portraying the villain. Wes Bentley seemed to have it a little harder. He had to look mad for most of the film and then pathetic for other scenes. I did laugh out loud when he went to the Gun Store, which is just down the street from where I live here in Las Vegas, and purchased a Cassul (I'm not sure this is the correct spelling) revolver, which is supposed to be a lot more powerful than a .44 Magnum. Forget about making my day. This is a "make my decade" handgun. When Bentley fired the weapon at a target in front of a small hill, he missed the paper target and knocked half the hill down, plus the recoil from the gun knocked him flat on his butt. And, that's exactly what it like shooting a Cassul revolver. You have to be a strong man to fire that weapon with any degree of accuracy. About the movie's ending. I thought it was kind of drawn out in order to get the film up to ninety minutes in length. I'm assuming most of the fans here have read the short story, so I'm not spoiling anything when I say I didn't understand why Bentley was shoveling dirt into the hole when he had a much better and faster way of doing it parked right behind him. I also couldn't see anybody carrying a hundred 50-pound slabs of concrete over to the hole and then covering the SUV with them in 115 degree weather. That would have killed a normal person. All in all, it's worth watching, but don't expect a classic here. Rent it, or watch it on Netflix. I wouldn't buy the movie, unless you're a die-hard Stephen King DVD collector.
