    Exclamation Exercise and balanced diets

In other words, healthy living - what do you do about it?

Since I have some health issues lately, a friggin lot of them actually, and I keep visiting the doctors frequently, I have to change some rather bad habbits - again.
    I simply have to.
Being a stay at home dad doesn`t give me a lot of time for exercise ( besides, running after the little one makes me sometimes exhausted as is ), but I do ride my stationary bike as often as I can ( when I don`t hurt to badly and no, I don`t paint pictures on the wall like the guy from Just after Sunset, not yet anyway ) and I completely changed my diet...no red meat, A LOT of salads, no cream and sugar in my coffee, cut down A LOT on the beer intake ( sigh, that`s the one I don`t love...I am not an alcoholic, but, in all honesty, I do like to have a day or two monthly when I do like to sit down and just drink my beer while watching movie after movie ).
Not to get to much into my bill of health, today I was told that I also have a "fatty liver"(along with bad cholesterol, high blood pressure and a few other things that well...are not curable with doeting, so no use of mentioning them.)
Anyone here has experience with that?
The doc said it`s a reversible thing, that I can clean the liver out, but I don`t really have the specifcs on how.
Browsed the net, but I rather here from you guys what you do to keep yourself healthy.

    If you do, that is.
Reading Stephen King books, given their volume, usually requires a lot of sitting on the couch or laying in bed...so, that ain`t no healthy lifestyle.

Thanks in advance, any tips and diet plans are welcome.

    PS:
And in all honesty, living a "regime" like that is BOOOOOOOORRRRIIIINNNNNGGGGGG as hell, I know that much already.

I'm 7 weeks nicotine free and its changing my life. I love to walk and bike now. (4- 6 miles per day or 45 -60 mins) We try to only use olive oil to cook and try not to drink more than 2.5 beers a day. (Were also switching from Corona at 158 cals to Becks 64)

You have to brush and floss everyday too! (I'M NOT KIDDING!) Get yourself to a dentist and see if you have anything going on orally that could be effecting your whole body. Cavities and infections can screw with the rest of your body.

Oh, almost forgot, we gave up beef and pork about 13 years ago. I think that best thing I ever did for my body. (Other than quit smoking recently)

You might want to give up anything "fun" too. Like... fun-chicken, fun-beef, fun-pork and fun-potatoes. Judy and I call proccessed and extruded, crap foods "fun." As in that fun-chicken from KFC made my stomach hurt. Chicken McNuggets are the king of all "fun" foods.

A lot of books come on audio now, and you can listen to them while walking. I find that very relaxing because I can get away from the house/kids, get lost in my book and before I know it I'm all exercised up, too! I always end up walking at night, because that's when I can get away, but then it's not so hot out, so that helps me, too.

Srbo, My dad has a fatty liver and it's all from his diet. (he's 250+) He also just had a stint run through his arm to open an artery. What can I say the man loves food. Now you don't have to do what my mother did which is to yank it all and toss it. Let's start with sugar you can have Stevia or Splenda instead and it's better than sugar. Cream for your coffee could be soy milk or there's even a new almond milk. Eat brown rice, Whole grain pasta, plenty of steamed vegetables, grilled white meat such as Fish and Chicken( breast meat no skin) stir fry's with a good light coating of olive oil (Pam can also be used) are great with a seasoning like Mrs Dash. Salads are good for you as well ( sprays are better than bottled ranch etc). And Fiber you need lots and lots of fiber which will help with cholesterol. Bran muffins, bran cereal, oatmeal and beans are all high in fiber. Dark Grape juice helps with Cholesterol too. It does not have to be boring. There are also holistic supplements that support your liver. Let me check my books and I can get back to you on that if you are interested. I almost forgot one very important one....Salt use a salt substitute and I know they take some getting used to.

Hey Srbo. Frickin' peas in a pod.

Fatty Liver, check. I've had that and reversed it before.

Foamy golden urine, check...my liver is tanking.

    HBP, also si senor.

    I feel really, really shirty.

For you: A good multivitamin at least every other day. Maybe add a B-Complex and a C with Rosehips. Heavy Milk Thistle supplementation. Eat a lot of fiber, drink a lot of clean water (1+ gallons per day), jam in some OJ/Blueberry/Banana/Strawberry smoothies....broccoli, spinach, black beans, and oatmeal for the cholesterol.

    And pray.

I am 100% committed to doing anything in moderation. I go to the gym 3-4 times per week. I am taking an exercise class at work three days per week and making healthy food choices. I still have the occasional cookie or sweet. However, try to eat a whole lot healthier.

Perhaps the Wii Fit system could work for you. The boxing is a pretty good workout. PlayStation 3 and XBox will also offer motion based systems later this year. I know. I know... its always about the video games with me.

I dance. A lot. It's helping to keep some fragile organs in better shape. How about putting on some music and teaching Suz how to dance to the music. It'll get both of you moving. Take your little girl for walks. Teach her how to exercise while you exercise.

I cook with butter and olive oil, and try to go light on the butter. I will NOT use margarine because it is not an oil in its natural state and I guess the body wouldn't know what to do with it. I haven't eaten out in years because of severe food allergies, so that's probably a good thing.

I agree with Bryan James about the milk thistle. It's supposed to detox the liver.

I have to watch what I eat to a certain extent and my vice is caffeine, but my doctor got me hooked on it because it does help keep the migraines down to a minimum.

I can go for quite a while without red meat, but every so often I start to get anemic and need some of the red stuff. I suspect that might be the lupus screwing me around there too.

I read package labels and try to avoid things with too much palm and coconut oil because those hydrogenated trans fats will go straight to places I don't want it to go - heart, liver, circulatory system.

I also try to remember that I can splurge a little a couple of times a month on the bad foods.

I exercise probably about 20-25 hours a week, and it frustrates the hell out of me when I get hurt and can't exercise or the arthritis is too bad and I just can't do it. Exercise helps keep me sane.

Sorry to hear that you are having health problems. As a person who never used to exercise, it was tough last summer when I started exercising every day. These days I cut it back to 3x a week, but I hope to get back to daily exercise again. I usually go to the gym, do kickboxing, but I've also done video workouts with a good amount of success. Px90 is one that got good reviews. If the weather is good, even getting out for a walk with the baby in ithe stroller is good exercise. I also made a lot of changes in our diet, not so much red meat and more chicken. More salads as well. I never ate salad and now I've grown to like it. One of the healthiest things we do is not eat out a lot. I also take vitamins every day -- vit c, calcium, folic acid, b-complex, multi-vitamin, and fish oil. I noticed once I began exercising regularly, I was feeling better, sleeping better, and had more energy. Lots of luck to you. You need to be in good health for your daughter's sake.
