    Default jericho hill issue five...

hey there... just got done reading the finale of the jericho hill series... and was surprised by the ending... i thought that roland hid in a cart of dead bodies to escape certain death...?? this didn't really happen in the comic... just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or info on this...??

also... i know there is alot out there on the upcoming 'gunslinger' series... but does anyone know for sure that it is a story bridging jericho hill and the first gunslinger novel? this could be amazing. just surprised and confused why they're calling it 'the gunslinger'...

We just got this info from Marvel yesterday:

Yeah, I wasn't keen on that ending. In the comic he also got hit and somehow survived.... or the bad guy (I forget his name) did a poor job of finishing him off. I read a theory on another site That Marten spitting on Roland inadvertently brought him back to life! Heh. (I don't really buy that though.)

And of course there was Aileen who played a much bigger role than she did in the novels. I like the fact that her role was amplified, but I thought turning her into a gunslinger (albeit not officially) diverged too much from the books. I understand Furth's reasoning about showing Roland's accepting attitude towards female gunslingers in a male dominated society especially as Susannah isn't around in this time period, but even so. I dislike the 'it's another universe' reasoning because I really read the comics to find out what happened in the novel's universe, not an alternative one. I suppose one could argue that everything that doesn't contradict still happened as described but I'd prefer them not to deviate too much.

That being said it wasn't a bad series at all, although I wish Roland would stop talking to himself.

The new The Gunslinger comics are turning out quite well too. Very interesting little thread with the Not-Men...

I agree that I was pleased with the broadened role of Aileen. I really liked her in Treachery and Fall of Gilead. She was almost non existent in Battle of Jericho Hill though. Additionally, I have begun the journey yet again and find myself a few dozen pages into Wasteland (post Jericho) and Roland says something to the effect of "never expecting to hear his ancient catechism (I do not shoot with my hand...) spoken by a woman", as Susannah does while training in the Shooting Gallery. But in the graphic novels, Aileen invokes this classic mantra. Although, I do believe she takes license to change "father" for "mother". Just one of those bothersome discrepancies...
