Default What's the big fuss over The Dark Tower series?

I haven't read it, but just wondering why it gets talked about on here so much above all his other works. Especially since The Stand and It are generally considered to be his best works.
I was just surprised by all the Dark Tower talk. I'll definitely need to read them to see what the fuss is about.

Yes you need to read them to know what the fuss is about. It was the journey and the relationships that got me sucked in, not so much as the stephen king gore which there is some, dont worry. The character development is amazing. The bonds these people have is extremely vivid for me. Your lucky you can read it in its entirety at once. I think once you meet Roland and go through the hardships with him and his tet you'll understand the fuss. Enjoy.

What?? People, are we fussy?I think we lean more toward the "got our feathers ruffled/panties in a wad/I got a wedgie" approach. Sarkisaur, you simply must cease and desist whatever you're doing at present-and run, don't walk-to the seven high stack of DT books. Crack open "The Gunslinger" and start your own pursuit of the man in black as the gunslinger follows...lock your doors and bolt the windows and don't come up for air till you've read em all!(Alright, strike the last command-coz you'd never make it past page 6 doing that). Once you reach "The End?", you'll understand and appreciate why we of the "King Clan"-consider it his Magnum Opus(Latin for freakin' long story)

Addiction, obsession, compulsion, fixation, enthusiasm, infatuation, passion, preoccupation, or compulsion maybe...but "fuss"? Really, Sarkisaur, you must take GNTLGNTs advice right away so you can (and you will ) join the rest of us DarK Tower junkies!!! Welcome to the board!!

One reason is that it ties into many of his other works, like The Stand, Insomnia, etc. Another is that there is a lot of character development.

Thanks guys, your passion has made me more curious. :P But if it relates to The Stand and Insomia, maybe i should read those first, or i won't appreciate the references?? I'm currently 3/4 through The Stand. So this "Dark Man" in Dark Tower is Randall Flagg??

hey, you have to be patient and wait to discover...

I think nobody here is going to tell you that.

I read Insomnia first, haven't read The Stand yet, and I read the 7 DT books in about 2 months... lol

I don't think not having read The Stand spoiled DT. But it's your call.

I, as an extremely anxious person, would read The Gunslinger right now!!!

I read The Stand many years ago, then read the DT series last year. I read Insomnia after DT and am now re-reading The Stand. DT stands on its own and can be read without reading any of the other books. Actually, I think if you read Insomnia before DT, you would be disappointed. DT really makes Insomnia better by a mile.
