Default Question about Oy *Minor Spoilers*

I finished SoS about a week ago and have started the last book the other day.

At the beginning of SoS, when everyone assembled at the door in the cave, Jake is surprised when he's being told that Oy will not be able go through the door. And so, there's a pretty moving scene when he says goodbye to Oy and asks the Calla folk to take care of him until he comes back for him. But then, at the end of SoS, when Jake and Callahan got through to the other side, Oy is with them, no questions asked.

Unfortunately I don't have the book with me, so I can't re-read these parts to see if I missed something. I do remember something about Oy jumping towards the door just as Jake and Callahan are sucked in. But I don't remember anything about him actually coming though the door and also, I found it odd that nor Callahan or Jake ever ponder on how it is that Oy is with them after all.

I hoped that maybe this will be explained on "The Dark Tower", but I'm about 60 pages in, and still nothing. Will this be explained later on? If so, then please just confirm that it will. But if not, then is it a hole?

well, when jake screams or something happens, oy hears jake...maybe the scream is only in his mind, but oy hears it, and though it doesn't say early on in s.o.s. that oy went through w/them, that is understood, if we know oy....and when they....land in nyc, land for the lack of the word sk uses....there's that THUD!...the thud being jake, smashing his fist onto the hood of the bumper, the bewildered man who almost runs over oy, all three of them, callahan, jake, and oy, almost run over, jake, thumping his fist on the car, giving the man what for, and i spose because of it all, they didn't question how oy happened to be there with them....stuff started happening

So this situation wasn't explained at all? Quite honestly, that's a bit of a bummer.
It would seem to me more realistic if Jake and Callahan squeezed this issue into one of their conversations, despite of all that was happening around them. After all, the amount of time from the moment jake said goodbye to the moment they stepped through the door (and even after the accident), was pretty brief. It must have been still fresh in his mind.

    Oh well, that's a shame.

well, it might have been explained...i looked at the two sections, the first that you described, saw that it is implied that oy went through the door, found that second section way back in the book, jake thumping his fists on the hood of the car...the 12th stanza, if anyone else wants to take a gander...doesn't appear to be anything there in the way of a satisfactory explanation...but i spose the issue is addressed, early on, 'before any of them could even begin to register the fact that ka had changed their plans, ka had worked its will on them...'....not a shame so much as ka...besides, we'd never have had that scene where first oy, then jake, show their teeth to the clerk in the hotel...

I am under the impression that it's not that Oy couldn't go through the door, but rather that Roland and Eddie didn't want him to go, because Oy was not of that world, and would attract too much attention. I seem to remember Roland and Eddie talking about this and deciding that Oy would not go. When Roland said that Oy can't go through the door, He was meaning that Oy wasn't going, period. Luckily, crazy future NY just thought he was some kind of funky dog mix.

Actually I remember them discussing that possibility that he just wouldn't be able to go through. I think they even talked about the time when Roland went back and forth from his world to Eddie's, and they gave the fact that items would only transfer from Eddie's world back to Roland's world and not vice-versa, as an example.
Though I'm not sure if it was consistent back then. In Drawing of the Three, did Roland manage to take his guns with him to New York? I think they were with him at the shootout in Balazar's office... Damn it I'm confused...

Barking furiously, Oy darted forward. As he did, the Unfound door sprang open, swinging in a hissing arc just in front of Jake's nose.

Something furry and barking like a mother****er shot past the side of his head. (Eddie's)
He saw Oy zip through the door like a piece of newspaper yanked up the street in the wake of a speeding car, and then the door slammed shut, swinging so fast and hard that he had to slit his eyes against the wind it blew into his face, (Eddie)

I don't see an explanation as to why Oy wasn't going with them though. Jake says that he came when they went todash and Eddie says "This ain't that, sugar." and that's pretty much it. Jake looks at Roland to ask him but the look in his eyes is enough to say ok, no more Oy, and he puts him on the ground to go with the Manni.

Oy gets no respect. I HATE that. How many times does he have to help out, even save the day, before we stop forgetting about the bumbler?!

I love Oy, he adds to much to the story. Thankfully he looks like some new kind of "Terrier/Corgi" breed, as long as he doesn't talk to much he'll be fine!
