No, you don't have to NOT step on a crack either-but I hope your Mother has a good Chiropractor! I jest,(sort of)-read em either way, just read em! I prefer the Talisman first-but the Library police won't follow you-if you go to the "House" right off...

I am reading Black House for the 2nd time around lately. Just finished The Talisman for the 2nd time. They are definitely sequels of one another. One doesn't need to read The Talisman 1st, but it is sure easier to link the 2 if you read The Talisman 1st. Anyways, by pg. 70 (or so) of Black House, it's nearly hard to get into. Stephen King really makes up for it afterwards. . Btw, he has vivid clues to Lost & other novels/novellas then also.

I think you could read in any order. Like others said, it took me a long time to get into Black House, but in the end it was a good read. The Talisman was awesome. Wolf! A great adventure. Wolf!

    Many thanks Ben.
You can read either first, but I think you will WISH you had read The Talisman first...because they are about the same guy. The Talisman takes place when the guy is a kid...Black House takes place after he grows up. So, you'll be going backwards in time, so to speak. Both are equally great reads with numerous fascinating characters.

Im sorry you had a hard time getting into Wizard in Glass. I read all the DT books in order, gobbled them up. Since I read one after the other, it's hard to remember which stuff happens in which book, but as I recall, Wizard tells the details of Roland as a young man and his one True Love, Susan DelGato. I hope you'll hang in there and see if you can't get into it, because really, the whhole series tells just ONE very long story. If you miss one, it's like leaving a movie for half an hour, LOL---you will miss the continuity of the tale.

Ny only struggle was with Blaine the Mono Train, but Im glad I went on through it. (The Wastelands?) My faves were The Drawing of the Three and Wolves of the Calla.

Go for it! You'll be glad you did!

    Lass Chance
