    Default Advanced Reader Copies (ARC)

    Ms. Mod,

I was curious as to who decides on whether advanced reader copies of SK books are issued? I'm asking after I noticed our good friend "Lilja" from Liljas-Library recently received one unexpectedly for the upcoming Blockade Billy novella. How does one get on "the list" if such a list exists? Is it more of a secretive deal to avoid plot spoilers and copyright issues, or just for other eyes for the review/proofing stage of a novel?

ARCs are distributed by the publishers free of charge and they try to only give them out to reviewers who will (hopefully) be positively promoting it to increase sales. They are not intended to be handed out to the general public and are not supposed to be sold by the person receiving it but there are many unethical people who only get on the list so they can sell their copy ahead of publication date at exorbitant prices. Lilja would have received one because he has a popular Stephen King fan site and would be promoting it there so it's a form of free advertising for the publisher.

I've gotten a few ARCs through some small publishers and a local bookstore. I've written some advance reviews and I have always returned the copy.

Well, all I know is that when Steve and I sat down and discussed Duma Key, he was very enthusiastic about making sure I received ARCs for every book he wrote from now until the end of time.

    Okay, I'm lying.

I have always wanted to review ARC's how cool would that be? And if you get to keep your ARC for your very own I would have them next to my signed books LOL (I'm such a nerd)

Isn't Mt. Ararat where you find the ARC? (bah-dum-dum)(and I DO mean dum-dum, I couldn't resist that one!)

    Hi,

    Aye, quite.

I have one ARC (Lisey's Story), courtesy of an MB member (thankee Pat) and I keep it beside my signed UtD, courtesy of another MB member (thankee DTKT) and my copy of Wizard and Glass signed by Ms Mod and the Concordances signed by Robin Furth..

    Long days and pleasant nights
