Thumbs up A question worth an answer

In the Green Mile, what exactly was your state of mind when you came up with the mouse, Mr. Jingles? That was an amazing idea I shall say. If you have some regular average Joe watch this movie, they're likely to remember the mouse more than anything. I'm not trying to be mean, but that's just how most people are. Mr. Jingles impresses everybody. And he's really cute. You did a great job at catching the audience's or reader's attention.

Sai King is just flat out gifted, period. He most always creates memorable characters, like my faves-Roland, Oy, Mother Abagail, Tom Cullen, Wolf, Andy Dufresne and dozens of others. Welcome to the board, and Uncle Stevie's Worlds of Wonder!

I agree with GNTLGNT-characterisation is one of SK's strongest points. It's why he's been called the modern day Dickens (The Guardian newspaper I think). His characters are living, breathing creations in most instances, and have certainly remained firmly lodged in my internal world long after reading the books. 'Oy is one of my favourite SK inventions-his death broke my heart and he also shows how animal characters can be as emotionally important to the reader as their human counterparts-when written as well as SK writes them of course! Mr Jingles is also a way in to the reader understanding and sympathising with characters who may not necessarily be immediately accessable-men on death row in this case (innocent or not-it doesn't matter...) The mouse helps to humanise the men-literally in the story (with exceptions-grrr!) and also for us the page turners.
