Default Children of the Corn Remake number 2

Ms. Mod can you help me. I read on horrorsquad.com that Dimension Films is planning on remaking children of the corn. Is the for real. Here is the quote from horrorsquad.com: "And in related Dimension news, the very same Variety article says that Skeleton Key writer Ehren Kruger has been hired as the screenwriter for a remake of Children of the Corn, which is an entirely different project from the Syfy channel remake of Stephen King's short story set for release in the next few months. The popular trade magazine quotes Harvey Weinstein as saying, "Ehren wants to hit it hard. It's popular in Hollywood to say you re-envisioning a project but a lot of the time they're just carbon copying the original. We are bringing something new to the story."" Thanks for your time Ms. Mod.

Sorry, no idea. We aren't usually involved in any of the remake projects. The Shining might be the only exception I can think of where we were.

    Hi,

Can't say as I'm all that excited by Harvey Weinstein's 're-envisioning'.

I was happier with Sai King's original 'envisioning' (the story, not the movie!).

    Long days and pleasant nights

Got to agree with you there John, Saw the original, it was OK... it had some classic "cult" moments, but personally, nothing else. The original short story will always be the best

I'm always reminding myself and others that people who don't read love this movie.

That's an awfully cynical viewpoint. I don't love the movie by any means, but I do enjoy it in a trashy sort of way ... and I read, I assure you. Reading doesn't inherently give you good taste; some readers actually persist in believing that Kubrick's The Shining is a bad movie. Other readers persist in believing that Stephenie Meyer is the pinnacle of modern literature.

As for the notion of a second remake, I'd be happy to see it happen ... in theory. There's virtually no way it can be worse than the first remake (which is one of the worst movies I've ever seen -- it's no Crazy Fat Ethel 2, but it's pretty bad). It also wouldn't be challenging to make something better than the original film.

It's a good story; there's really no reason why a talented team of professional filmmakers shouldn't be able to make a good movie from it. With that in mind, why wouldn't a fan of the story want to see that happen?

Of course, the key is, would any talented professional filmmakers actually be hired for the project? Odds aren't particularly good on that score.
