IMO, it's the triumph of love that strikes such a chord with me, and how huge the human heart can be. Ahhh, what magic!
i think it does something for our angst....paul, going through the motions, following orders, messing up the one execution even though he realizes partway into it that he other guard, percy was it, had bad intent....going along to get along, a kind of salve for our consciousness, or those swiss cheese cellars where the wind blows hollow, a shutting of that door....all is well and all manner of things will be well......it's interesting that john coffey shares a name w/a man who would have been on the titanic, had he not stowed away on a something, a feeder vessel or something.....did he flee from that notoriety?....that guilt?...
Well, it's definately an emotional journey, right from love to hate and most in between. That usually makes a good book. Have you read the book yourself? It will help you with answering that question.![]()
Also, there was the whole event of the serial novel, if you were lucky enough to read it as it was released. I know I just couldn't wait for each installment to come out. I remember how excited I was to see how thick that last episode was, too! Steve really got people excited about reading that story, so I think there are a lot of good feelings toward this book.
How 'bout it's just a seriously great, very unique and well written heart rendering story, originally put out in a quirky cool old fashioned monthly installment novel style, ala Chuck Dickens...the anticipation was so cruel it was satisfyingly groovy..you usually gotta pay a little somethin' extra for that kind of quality suffering is what I'm sayin'
!
Besides I ask you, who doesn't just love a personable, talented & highly motivated geriatric mouse with a signature trick on his resume'?...yeah uh huh, I know
!
Guys, sure I read it - three times! But I asked You to help meFor the last 5 months I have been analyzing the book from various angles, and I'm really tired of doing it now. Now my stage of writing is focused on the film "The Green Mile".
P.s. I do not understand people who, while answering to my post about "writing a thesis", advise me to read the booksince everyone HAS TO do it if he is writing MA thesis
It's just obvious
best wishes to all "The Green Mile" lovers![]()
Still, guys I would be so so grateful if you could enumerate elements which make it a bestseller? e.g. genre, characters, language? By the way, it turns out that the "recipe" for a bestseller includes various elements which the author should always bare in mind while writing a novel e.g. a clear division between good and bad characters, simple language, involving plot, amazing storyline, unexpected twists of action, a specific genre (in this case a mixture of few genres in one), massive marketing and promotion, fairly inexpensive price etc. etc.
I liked it because of the character development, really felt for the people, and felt like I knew 'em. Plus I liked the historical-ness.
