Cool Classic cars and Mr. King

Man, I'm livin' large! I'm a lifelong fan of SK and classic cars-especially Mopars. Uncle Stevie seems to share the love of Detroit's finest given the multiple nods throughout his Universe. For instance, "Dolans Cadillac", that lean mean cruising machine from "The Dark Half" and of course, the "Queen Bi**h" herself-Christine(to name but a few). So tell me about your favorite SK car moment, or your favorite car. Mine is a 1969 Plymouth Sport Satellite. Two door hardtop with a 318 V-8. It's my show car and a daily driver in good weather. My father and I have worked on her and gone to shows together for years-making those times some of the most special of my life. So, if you have a moment, slame the gearshift down and write away!

My favorite SK car moment took place in 1986. I was an art major at LSU, and took a photography course. I was walking across campus one day with my Canon hanging over my shoulder when I was stopped in my tracks by a heart-stopping car. I've always loved classic cars, but had never seen one like this. It was long, black, and.... dangerous-looking, somehow. It was throwing off a serious vibe. I'd read "Christine," a few years earlier, loved it, and loved the movie, too. This car, though definitely NOT the same make, model or color, reminded me of Christine (I researched it, and it was a 1951 Pontiac, with the Indian head for a hood ornament). I took a few photos (I had black and white film in my camera) and couldn't wait to develop them. After I processed the film and developed the photos, I was really excited that one of them really captured the spookiness of the car. I still have the photo, and for years have thought about framing it and sending it to SK. But, I'm not sure he'd like it, so I have it in a file in my drawer.

I raised a son who went "Bananas" over the Colby Mustang. He had an autographed pic of Carroll Shelby, model cars and the works. Then he moved on to weapons of war....you are under his protection in the USN.

My favorite car was a car (used) that my husband gave me for my Birthday one year. It was a 1970 Thunderbird witha 429 Thunderjet engine and fully loaded! She was beautiful and flew low and smooth. Every time the police officer pulled me over and asked me, "Do you know how fast you were going?" I would honestly say, "Nope". She was so powerful 360 horsepower and moved smooth ss silk. The spedometer stopped at 120 but you couldn't tell. She had a 20+ gal gas tank and you could almost hear her gulping up that gas but man, cruisn down the highway listen to some oldie moldy songs on the QUADRAPHONIC system was haaaaaaa. heaven. BTW, I really liked the car!

My favorite King car never existed, but I loved it anyway. In Needful Things, the Tucker Talisman. In the book it was a prototype, quite possibly the only one of its kind. But there was a Tucker car company, most notable for its Torpedo model. I always liked Tuckers, and was kind of blown away that Mr. King would mention such a car in one of his stories. Most people nowdays hardly know of anything outside Ford, GM, and Chrysler, let alone something like a Tucker.

P.S. I know it's petty, but I can't help pointing out that there is a difference between antique cars and classic cars, and that no Ford, GM, or Chrysler was ever considered a classic. One Buick was, the biggest and best they made back in the 1930s, and a couple Cadillacs, of course, but most classic cars were made by now-forgotten companies like Dusenberg, Stutz, Franklin, Pierce, Marmon, and others, and well before World War II.

No point in rammin' down the higway in a Classic-if you have to worry about the speedometer!(Professional driver on closed course, do not attempt at home)Sorry, figured I better place the disclaimer....

I did dig Dennis's car in the movie version of Christine. That was a bad a** Challenger!

My personal favorite classic car is the 1973 SuperDuty Trans Am.
