    Default Starting to get hooked

The Waste Lands is definitely the book that's finally getting me into the DARK TOWER. I was tempted to give up during book 2 because I was so annoyed by Detta Walker. I just got sick of her real quick. But I decided to stick with it and eventually the Detta Walker problem was solved, thankfully. Now I'm getting into the meat of book 3 and I'm glad I stuck it out. I've just finished the chapter where they brought Jake through the door into mid-world. That and everything leading up to it was some of the most intense reading I've ever had the privilage of. I don't think I could force myself to stop now. I can't imagine what it must have been like for people who read them as they came out and had to wait years in between. Talk about torture! Mr. King sure knows how to craft a story.

Yeah, I was one of those people that had to wait - definitely were tough years. Keep reading - it just gets better.

It was tough, but worth it.

Once you get past the early part of #4, there's a spectacular interlude, and all rest ride that crest till the end(?).

Oh, such a journey you still have ahead of you! Find yourself a billy-bumbler, some "astin" and a "tooter-fish" sandwich and off you go! Never stray from the Beam and don't stop till you smell the roses(and I don't mean Pasadena). Long Days and Pleasant Nights!

I took the journey the long way...and through the years, the waiting got pretty rough at times...but rereads in between helped pass the time, and let me get to know the Ka-tet that much better. Enjoy the journey (I loved the Waste Lands...there's more good stuff coming!), but don't read each bood too fast, just because the next is waiting. Give yourself some time to absorb what you've read, then move on! Enjoy!!!

Personally, I loved The Drawing of The Three the most. But to each their own, right? I am a little surprised that it took you so long to really get into it, though..

My favorite parts were the visit to the Ammo store and the Pharmacy. These two events could be the all time humor scenes in film. Roland's innocense about the times and the pressure he was under to get it done fast, was the all time favorite of mine. But the best was probably the shoot out with Roland and Eddie against Balazar's group. They were so good against the real bad guys.

Hi Walter! I'm only now reading The Dark Tower books for the first time. I am currently a little way into Wolves Of The Calla (#5). I gotta say, The Waste Lands is my fave so far, I just didn't want it to end! Book 4 is brilliant but took a little way to get into. You'll love it almost as much as The Waste Lands, I did! Enjoy!

I also got a good chuckle at Roland's amazement when he drank Pepsi.
