Default The, Good, the Bad and the Ugly on UK TV Tonight!

    Hi,

As the climax to the recent season of Serge Leone and Clint Eastwood's 'spaghetti westerns' (though they were filmed in Spain) Channel 5 UK are showing 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' at 9 p.m tonight.

As most of you probably know, this was partly the Genesis for the Dark Tower.

Mescaline optional (I must be getting old, I think I'll just have popcorn tonight!).

    Long days and pleasant nights

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is my favorite western. Every time I take the Dark Tower journey again, I hear the theme music playing in my head.

Best two lines of the movie:

"Such ingratitude after all the times I saved your life" and "Were you gonna die alone?"

Ya know, this film is just thought of as a "western", but to me this is a piece of film making that few can come close to. It was a perfect fit for itself, has all the elements of a great story and some the greatest characters of all time. I never get tired of this great movie. Before I even knew that this movie influenced the DT books, I read The Gunslinger and immediately thought of this and Clint Eastwood as Roland.

I love the man with no name trilogy and most Eastwood flicks.

I know he is the basis for Roland and all but I have never at any point seen a face that looks like Clint's face in my minds eye when reading about Roland.

When The Gunslinger/Dark Tower was first published and I read it, I saw a combination of Clint Eastwood as the Man with No Name and Kirt Russell in Escape from New York as the gunslinger. This was like twenty-six or twenty-seven years ago. Sometimes it amazes me that I've been reading SK's novels for like thirty-three years. That's more than half of my life.
