Default Listening to Audio books VS Reading King books

I have a job that has me driving 1,000 miles a week and this gives me plenty of time to listen to audio books.

So far I have listened to The Stand, Under The Dome, Bag Of Bones and Desperation.
Cell, Regulators, and the entire dark tower series are up next.

I must say, for me at least, there was huge difference listening to The Stand versus reading it. You are forced to go at the pace of the reader, and I found I enjoyed it more. Hearing his version of the tones and inflections. It was the very first audio book I ever tried, and it hooked me.

The second was Under The Dome, and I must say the narrator, Raul Esparza was AMAZING !

His version of Big Jim made me hate the man so much more than if I was reading him. All his voices and accents were outstanding.

King himself read Desperation & bag of Bones, and I have enjoyed them, and his reading of them, but I think it's going to be impossible to top Raul Esparza's reading of under the dome.

Add UR, Just After Sunset, and Duma Key to the list of audio books. UTD is still the best (audio wise)

I've listened to Dolores Claiborne, Gerald's Game, Cell, the Blood and Smoke trilogy (Lunch at the Gotham Cafe, In the Deathroom, and 1408), and The Mist in 3D surround. I enjoyed them all but my favorites are Dolores Claiborne because of the performance by Frances Sternhagen and The Mist for its theatrical presentation and excellent sound effects.

I'm eager to listen to UtD but want to wait a few more months to get a bit further away from reading it.

I'm listening to The Dark Tower now... currently DT4, when I'm going back home from work, by subway. I'm living it so far, and sometimes it makes me laugh out loud, I'm taken by surprise by some jokes, then people in the subway think I'm crazy...

I like audiobooks very much and I have listened to some SK's books. I've listened to The Shining, Carrie (read by Sissy Spacek), In the Deathroom, Boogeyman, The Raft and Apt Pupil.
I like The Shining, Carrie and Boogeyman the best. The Shining is simply my favorite one, I like it in any form Carrie is also quite a nice audiobook, I guess it's worth listening. And Boogeyman also seemed to be great to me, it was even scary to listen to it at night

    Yes, audiobooks rock!

My commute is about 50 minutes each way, and I typically will have an audiobook going instead of just listening to the radio. It makes the commute so much better!

I've listened to The Stand and most of the DT series, as well as works from other authors. My favorites, though, are when Sai King himself reads the story. If for no other reason, it gives me insight into how he pronounces names.

Another fan of audiobooks! Whatever Stephen King audio our library stocks, I will listen to. I already paid for the hardbacks but I'm more likely to re-"read" if it's an audiobook.

Can someone provide a list of the books that Stephen King himself has done the audiobook readings for?

    Hi,
I don't know if anyone else experiences this problem or if it's just me but I cannot listen to audiobooks. Something in the story will niggle a thought loose in my head and I'm off and running checking out that idea from every angle. This doesn't happen when I read -- only while listening to recorded books.

    Anyone else have this trouble?

We don't have a list with just the audiobooks that Steve has read, but our Audiobooks section on the main portion of the site does list the reader/s so you can get the information there. Wherever possible, we also have clips of the audios and will be adding more of the upcoming new releases (including the much anticipated recording of IT) as soon as we get them from Penguin.

With all the road time, I understand listening to a good book-rather than the incessant yak-yak from commercial radio or "All Polish Love Songs All the Time" on satellite-I've done it myself. But, if I'm at all able-it's the actual book every time. Yeah, I've been known to bury my nose in one at prolonged traffic lights
