Thumbs down Under the Dome by far the best novel so far

I finished Under the Dome in three days. I literally could not put it down. While at the beginning of the book I was so excited to find out how the dome was created by the end I really did not care, I was more interested in the story. The best Stephen King book I have read. It is incredible.

I agree. Under the Dome is-by far-one of King's best, and I often think of it as being "amazingly brilliant."

Well, I have to say I enjoyed it-but it's not his best work by far. That's just me speakin' of course. The Dark Tower epic and The Stand are what I feel are his best works. But, that's what makes this ole melon we're on spin around-diversity of opinion. Welcome to the board!

    Hi,

Welvome to the MB, and keep posting!

I completely agree that UtD is superb, remarkable.

But I wonder if you've read The Stand or IT?

    The Talisman/Black House?

Or the incredible cycle of the Dark Tower?

    Long days and pleasant nights

I loved "The Dome" but nothing can surpass "The Stand"

Having just finished UTD I have to agree its excellent and one of King's better books. I agree with those who say The Stand, IT and DT are better. Personally, I liked the ending. While the alien kids were being cruel to the people the people were also being cruel to each other. This cruelty was the same as that of other kids in Shumway's past. The somewhat depressing message is that the cruelty is there even in an "advanced" civilization. King seems to be suggesting then that it will always be with us. Hope he's wrong on that but current events suggest otherwise.....

I think Under The Dome is definately one of Stephen King's best books so far. I've read other books by S.K. but none of them have captured my imagination quite like this one. I literally could not get away from it. Even when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it, trying to predict what was going to happen next or what was really causing the dome. This was definately an amazing book. Job well done Mr. King!

I honestly found Under the Dome to be ever-so-slightly better than It. It (as in...Stephen King's It) was an excellent book, but something about Under the Dome was more driving, I thought. Maybe it was just more focused. Or maybe it was the fact that the pedal was constantly to the floor, and the pacing never let up. It (again, Stephen King's It) was a great read, but at times unfocused or otherwise slow to get to the point.

Opinions are like a-holes, though; I don't think I need to tell you why that is.

I thought Under The Dome was fantastic. The plot and totally believable characters had me hooked, but I can't agree that this is King's best novel to date. The Dark Tower has to be my all time favourite now, closely followed by Needful Things, The Regulators and Blaze. Under The Dome for me is on a par with Duma Key, that was excellent too
