Thread: Stephen King Erotica

  1. Default Stephen King Erotica

Hi, I'm new here to the website. And I'm still trying to learn all the rules of ettiquette. So forgive me if I cross the line. Anyway, to the point:

I love the way Stephen King writes sex scenes in his novels. He's very good at it. Sometimes I'll jump right to those scenes and skip everything else, at least at first. Haha. I was thinking he should branch out into something like romance novels, but not the mushy cheesy kind. More like written erotica. I'd buy those! What do you guys think?

To put it bluntly-He** No!. That would be akin to Norman Rockwell painting covers for the aforementioned Romance novels...I agree he writes such scenes well, but lets leave the universe as it is. Putting him into such works would certainly accomplish what no matter of Breaker ever did-destroying the beams and causing the Tower to collapse out of sheer disgust!

I don't know. Yes he writes well when it comes to those kind of parts in a story, but I'm not sure I would enjoy a book like that written by him. He is a wonderful writer that's why you enjoy those parts of the book, but HORROR is what he does best and should stick too. I don't think I could take it very seriously because the whole time I would be waiting for a monster to come out of the closet while their doing it or something. Haha. Just kidding.

Well, I am happy he doesn`t go into to much detail about that, he leaves it mostly up to your imagination but does give you a nice start.
As for romance novels, well, you should read The Dark Tower series, if you haven`t already, especially Wizard & Glass...you want world class romance, but not mushy - there you go.
One of the finest books ever written on that subject, IMO.

You know, this may be a tiny bit off topic, but this brought up a thought. especially the descritptions of Roland's intimate time in Tull, remind me a lot of the "Tabor Evans" series Longarm, which are basically porn novels in an old west setting. I wonder if Steve read these novels and was influenced by them? The styles are very similar, though Longarm novels were written by many different authors. They are actually decent books and well written. I just see a lot of similarity there, and not to only the descriptions in the DT books.

Oh yeah, on the topic. I think the back story in W&G is as close as Steve ever needs to come to a romance novel. I will say it again about that story though, it is nothing short of a classic piece of American literature.

It was quite some time ago that he did the interview, but he once mentioned that he had tried writing erotic stories (before he'd published Carrie, I believe) because there was a strong market for them at that time, but he just couldn't do it--it didn't feel like it was coming out as believable to him--so gave up on that idea. I think that if he thought that had changed or he was interested in writing in that genre, he'd be doing so.

didn't peter straub make a joke about sk and love scenes somewhere? maybe it is in a foreward to something of sk's? anyone else have an image of scott frying bacon up in his underwear? prolly the name of our member, dances in underwear, brought that one up out of the murky depths....so what are the more memorable scenes?....gerald's game? lisey's story? wizard and glass? insomnia? can one put a percentage on them, count em up and pass judgment? do people who follow golf do so because someone has a mean nine-iron? is there such a thing as a nine-iron?
i tried finding the straub quote...couldn't find it...so maybe it doesn't exist...looked in secret windows, there's an intro there...i spose where there are sex scenes, they are integral to the story and nothing more, nothing less.

If you like horror fiction with this element (erotica), try reading "Scared Stiff" by Ramsey Campbell. It's a small collection of short stories. I say "try" because Campbell is British and his writing style and phrasing is often difficult to follow. I have to read his work very, very slowly.

The stories are pretty good though....
