Help! Can't remember a short story name and it is driving me nuts!

A friend and I were just talking about all the SK stories we have read and I described on and he looked at me like I was crazy.

I just spent an hour trying to find it on the internet and no luck. So I need help to prove to my friend I'm not going senile. (Or help get me committed.)

Is there a story about a guy who rides a rocking horse or something like that. And he has to go faster and faster to keep someone alive or to make a horse in a horse race go faster or win a bet somehow. And I think he dies at the end from going too fast??? (After typing that I am starting to think I am nuts.)

Any help one way or the other would be awesome!! Thanks.

I believe that's The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence. I remember that one.

well whoever wrote that story, i'm sure it wasn't SK... i've read all his short stories that i know of and have no recollection of a story like that... sorry

SharonC ... The Rocking Horse Winner is the story I was thinking of. I must have read it in high school around the same time I was reading a lot SK and associated the two.

It was a cool searching through all the short stories looking for it though. I am going to go back and read them all again. There are so many great ones!
