I came across this pdf of the novel and decided to check it out. I will be ordering a few hardcovers! It is not an easy read, for a couple of reasons. It has many converging story lines that don't all link up until halfway through the book's 749 pages, but then it takes off like a rocket! A casual reader might be put off by that structure. Another reason is the bold sex, violence and racism portrayed through some characters. Rape and torture are included, but not gratuitously. If you have made it through SK's collective works, then you have already encountered worse than anything in Unintended Consequences. This is a history lesson on the past century, wrapped in a novel. There is much in this work that appears to be utter fantasy, but when one checks the outrageous anecdotes... well, truth is stranger than fiction, right?
To summarize, this story is of the 'gun culture'. If you have never fired a gun, but think you know what the 'gun culture' is, then you are in for a shock. I know people who are just like the characters in this story. They exist, all around you. It is my hope that people will read this novel and learn from it. The real historical settings are accurately documented, and the story has the potential to avert a civil war. Time is short, but there is still time...

The novel is, definitely, pro-gun as a central theme but is overall a pro-freedom story. Property rights, excessive governmental regulation, unrestrained bureaucracy and political corruption are all addressed with regard to groups such as FAA, Congress, EPA, BATFE etc. While there is plenty of gun-control propaganda from the antagonist side, it is mainly told from the viewpoint of 'gun culture' proponents.
