Talking sköldpadda Bought some!!! Come on luck;-)

    Hey all:

Just finished a reread (5th time or so) of the DT series. Since my first read I have been on the lookout at flea markets and crafts shows (my wife likes to go to up here in the spring and summer) for a turtle made of (scrimshaw ivory very rare) gemstone rocks, jade, crystal etc... for years.

I never found one that felt right , was high quality, or were ridiculously overpriced IMO. Looked online found some on ebay or some sites...After this time in reading i said enuf--online I went and found a few good websites.

I bought 3 for under 60$ (no tax free shipping over 50$) I bought fancy Jasper stone, Tigers Eye, and the natural agate-- on the left of the below url is all their products (shipped real fast KA for them to come less than 12 hours after i finished my re-read of DT!) they have 3 pages of turtles in different stone and sizes. (many other animals, reptiles, crystal balls, etc)

    http://www.phoenixorion.com/phoenixo...lcarvings6.htm

Quality is the best i have seen (I got large ones but they are small note the sizes are listed) the pix do not do them justice , very fine polished rocks these are, excellent carving (much better than what i have seen at craft shows) detail.

    natural agate

fancy Jasper (mine is darker green less red in it)

    Tigers eye

Maybe this thread may develop into the new wolves howling at moon t shirt inet phenomenon! If my luck swings I will post here ;-)

Long days and pleasant nights all l!!!

Good for you! Awesome buy!! I've been wanting one for myself for awhile - I like to find King related items to display with my King Collection. My mom collects tons of different things, one of which is slag. I thought I'd seen every piece she had until the last time I visited her and saw a turtle on a shelf. I couldn't believe it (started reciting the poem "See the turtle of enormous girth..." and I"m sure she thought I was crazy)... anyway, when I told her about the Turtle and the Beam and the skoldpadda, she gave it to me! It now sits next to my Dark Tower books...it's tan with white swirls, and was molded rather than carved, but it's the closest thing I've come across to a skolpadda yet!
    Thanks for sharing!

    "
See the TURTLE of enormous girth,

On his shell he holds the earth.
If you want to run and play,
    Come along the BEAM today."

(Seen by Jake at the Lot with the Rose)

"See the TURTLE of enormous girth!
On his shell he holds the earth.
    His thought is slow but always kind;
He holds us all within his mind.
    On his back all vows are made;
He sees the truth but mayn't aid.
He loves the land and loves the sea,
And even loves a child like me."

    (As told by Roland)

I have a skeleton turtle my dad gave me when I was a kid. It's the shell with the skeleton feet and head sticking out. He found it in a creek when he was a kid and passed it to me. I named it Herkimer and it sits on my bookshelf.

Ok folks --- the power of the
    sköldpadda

    is proven!

here it is--- I have been very unhappy at my job the past year and expected my cheese to be moved-- thus was prepared resume out talked to people, other websites populated to search for a job. the market seems better this year as i got some hits--came close on one opportunity shocked to not get the offer --but would have been travel 4 days per week... what i wanted to do was find a job and volunteer for a layoff (thus getting severance package $$)

so got the turtles, and found out about an IBM upcoming layoff--knew I would be on it as i recently got reorg'd into new Dept and lost my mgmt connections, sooo begining month got laid off--- actually working until 3-31.

week before i knew i was laid off a local recruiter found my resume on linked in and contacted me about 2 great jobs unbelievably both on Long island (no commute into NYC or Jersey!!) 8 interviews (3 days) and final was on st paddys day (4 years since my Dad passed on St Paddy's sure he helped me) and got the offer finalized today.

For all the interviews i had the turtle with me!!!!

    IT worked!!!!

viva le Turtle and the power of St paddy's day!!!

I found a little turtle laying in the street, I thought it looked kinda cool, was made of cloth... Then about a month passed and I read Wolves...
it just seemed to draw me into the book a little more having for some reason picked up the dirty turtle, so naturally I pretended the book version was also made of cloth, then drew a question mark scar on its back with a marker... I know I'm lame, but I love my turtle, Don't judge me.
