Default A Dark Matter by Peter Straub

    Anyone reading it?

I'm only sixty or so pages in, so it's a bit early to begin discussing it. So far, though, so good. Straub is one of the masters, and a new novel from his is always cause for celebration. Between this and Joe Hill's Horns, Feb. 2010 is as good as months get for folks who like quality horror fiction.

Just bought it last week but haven't started it yet. I'm sure it will be another great Straub book, I hope it will be on the same level as the blue rose series.

I'm with Star. I haven't seen it but will look for it. I'm getting ready to read Mr. X by Straub. Has anyone read it?

I just finished it a couple of days ago and it's one of his best. It is complex as usual
but it flows so smoothly and the way his characters express themselves about the tragedy that has
haunted them for years is brilliant. There is an even longer version of this story that will come out
in a couple of months. I highly recommend it.

The longer version of A Dark Matter is titled, Skylark, and it was published by Subterranean Press last November or December. It was about two hundred pages longer than A Dark Matter. I purchased A Dark Matter based on all the great reviews I read about it, but could only get 85 pages into the story before calling it quits. I wanted to love the novel the way I did Ghost Story and Floating Dragon, but it didn't happen. Straub is going to publish most of the missing pages from A Dark Matter as a novella early this summer. I saw it advertised on Amazon.com. It's going to be in paperback format.

The publication of Skylark was postponed intil this spring.
There is something about Straub ( isn't that the name of a movie?) novels
that causes readers to stumble at times. It took me multiple tries with Koko, though the other
two novels in the "Blue Rose" trilogy were easier for me.
