I've been actually trying lately to remember what the first King book was for me and I really think it was either this or Eyes of the Dragon. It would have been around fifth grade. I still remember how much of a rush it was to read the books. This was the late 80's when he was really starting to take off in popularity. I remember getting a thrill from reading material that was more risque and adult in content - doing something you aren't supposed to be doing. I've been a fan ever since.

I'm so tempted to read this book now. Can you imagine that I haven't read it?
I picked up Dolores Claiborne off a bookshelf, had never even read a full book in my life up to that point, I was eighteen, have never stopped reading since. King's books actually changed my life.
My first was 'Salem's Lot and I had never read anything like it before then. I have read all his books except for Buick 8 and the Dark Tower books. I am waiting until I retire to read them.. I want time to read them in one fell swoop. (I don't exactly know what a fell swoop is, but it sounds exciting)
Well, it was the King novel that hooked me in, in 1997. I was blown away by the writing...especially Lou's thought processes...very realistic. And it hit a core...when Gage dies. The part where they went kite flying...it just KILLED me.
It was my first. I knew i wanted to buy a SK book, and Pet Sematary just screamed I'M THE ONE ;D
Pet Sematary was my 3rd King book, but my first "normal" sized novel, my 1st was IT (massive) and my 2nd was 4 Past Midnight (3 shorts - didn't read secret window). I really enjoyed it actually, found it a good mix of character building, happiness, sadness, etc. Something I have noticed whilst reading Kings books, is that when it comes to young girls having a particularly bad time, or nasty, horrible experience, I always tend to think "aw, poor Ellie" or "aw poor Trisha"(Girl who loved Tom Gordon), and Poor Bevvie (Marsh, IT). This is the main thing in Kings books that seems to tug at the heart strings for me.
My main memory from Pet Sematary is Ellie's bad dreams, and . It realy made me quite sad.
