I just picked up a copy of the stand and it is the complete and uncut edition. Should i just read this version or should i read the original copy first then this version after?

The uncut version has about 300 pages that weren't in the first edition. There is a very interesting character who gets cut out as a result but his absence doesn't alter the story if you choose not to buy the uncut edition. I prefer the uncut story.![]()
Hi,
No, read the one you've got, it was originally cut for financial reasons rather than artistic ones by the publisher and the Uncut is the way it was meant to be in the first place.
Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!
Long days and pleasant nights
I own copies of both versions. I first read The Stand in 1985 which was the 1978 version. Five years later when the uncut version was released I was amazed by how much had been left out. Especially the chapters involving the plague and the collapse of society. But the 78 version is interesting. Characters were changed and the 78 version has a real seventies vibe to it.Right there with George Romero's Dead movies (when they were good), The Andromeda Strain and Harlan Ellison short stories. The 90 version was updated by King but there are times when it feels out of synch. In other words there are times when it feels a little uncomfortable in it's own skin. So I suggest reading both versions. Just to have a comparison. Enjoy.
i would absolutely go with the original version, i think that this is by far and away sk's best novel
most definately you will not be disappointed![]()
Read the unexpurgated version! This uncut read will flesh out a wealth of detail from the original massive edit, and what the hey? Spending more time with Uncle Stevie is never a bad thing! Enjoy. I've read both and you won't be disappointed.
