That's exactly who I pictured Big Jim as, too. He was perfect as Buster in Needful Things. Kind of the same low down, dirty character you just love to hate!

Yep. J.T. Walsh always played a conniving underhanded cheat very well. The more I read about Rennie in UTD, the more I saw Walsh as playing him. I think he would have been perfect.

Baaarbie - Jake Gyllenhaal

Julia - Anne Heche (w/long hair)

Rusty - Jon Hamm

Linda - Elizabeth Banks (She had a great dramatic role in The Next 3 Days opposite Russell Crowe)

Chef Bushey - Jeremy Davies

Thurse - Dave "Gruber" Allen (the guidance councelor from Freaks & Geeks)

Junior - Sam Whitwer (I remember him from an episode of Dexter, turns out he was also in The Mist. Kismet?)

Burpee - Johnny Depp (w/a pencil thin mustache and his hair slicked back, lol)

Brenda Perkins - Susan Sarandon (or someone like that)

Big Jim Rennie - Stephen Root (I pictured him the entire time I read the book)

Michael C Hall is a good choice. I thought he was supposed to be fairly young (mid to late 30s) as Julia is always making jokes about how shes old enough to be his mother and alit of the suggestions are old or at least old looking.
