    Default MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE Review

…I popped it in and it was like ALICE falling down the Rabbit hole away from reality… But instead of running away from society… I fell into my childhood… I use to bike around and pretend I was that kid… Not to mention I cut lawns because of the lawn mower… I use to get picked up in Charlotte every summer for eight years and the married couple driving around made me taste smell the moist green air of the Carolina’s again… and the scenery from all of the trips from the airport in Charlotte to Greenville South Carolina… I’ve always have been a huge fan of Emilio Estevez … MEN At WORK is still a classic in my eyes… I can’t find my VHS copy must be another thing that got lost in all of the moves… I haven’t been in the same place for more than a year since I was 18… But I remember the lawn mower running over someone or was it another film and the blood spinning round the roller tube… MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE is bringing up my gooseflesh from my past… site, sound and smell… I still can’t believe critic were so hard on the film… I love this film… It’s my childhood even more so then STAND BY ME or EXPLORERS… It is a film that defines me and where I am Now… **** the truck stops… I drove to FLORIDA once a guy I knew in the cities and I planned a trip to FLORIDA to go on a tour of FULL SAIL for nine months..,. Had everything planned… I was on my way to pick him up from the CITIES it’s a hour drive from the CLOUD… On the way he canceled an went to IOWA… I figured I’m an hour into it why not go the rest of the way… it is my dream… I drove to ORLANDO Florida by myself left at 8:00PM Friday and got back by 5:00PM Monday… I slept in one rest stop and two TRUCK STOPS on the way there and Back each way I stopped in FORT WAYNE INDIANA to visit my mother… but it was a trip of green and white… when I got there a guy had offered for me to stay with him until I enrolled I wish I had taken him on that offer now…But anyway back to the story the TRUCK STOP…Dixie Boys reminds me of one of the TRUCK STOPS I slept in the parking lot and woke up next to the law the next morning in one of my power naps for 2-5 hours…I just wish I knew then what I know now…Every Rift from AC/DC guitar puts a smile on my face and brings back my middle school years thanks for the earthworm memory charge…When the Bible Sales men gets hit I always think he’s there till the end for some reason… it always puts a smile on my face…The culvert brings up the childhood to when we use to play WAR and capture the flag as a kid hiding in them… Or barricading one side so the water would rise and building forts in them…When they go to get the Bible Sales man and the music starts to play made me feel like I was walking up to my first kegger in 7th grade or when people started to arrive at my parties I threw for the school in 7th grade…When Estevez talks into the Goblins ear it feels like a rift in a rock and roll blues song…Perfect…Hey, hey, hey, hey,.. like B.B King of horror…MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE is a imprint in the American Horror genre like Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street… Not only does it reflect the times but when KING made it he broke all the barriers in the Horror Genre… I mean his first film get a X rating for gore… MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE is the greatest horror Action film of all time and is the blue print from which all action horror films have tried to emulate time and again like Dawn of the Dead… and is the first and the finest of them all in my mind…It’s like a horrific fortune cookie for America…And we are realizing it now…Machines and fuels might be the death of us all…Not to mention MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE has the greatest soundtrack of any Horror Film made…Second would be THE CROW if anyone cares what I think…

I was bored last night and was surfing through free movies on demand. Watched Maximum Overdrive again for the first time in years. I know SK stated he would never direct again, but I would like for him to. Anyone else? I thought it was awesome. Cheesy yes, but everything was in the 80's. Anyone else like to see Sai King get behind the camera again? Or has anyone heard if he's thinking about it?

Stephen King has a special way of looking at things
thats why Maximum Overdrive turned out to be the best movie in the world
i would really like him to direct another movie.
i wonder if Stephen King knows that there are so many die hard Maximum Overdrive fans out there!

Was Maximum Overdrive the sole reason he said he would never direct again? Was it the final product or that he just didn't enjoy the experience? I didn't think the direction was bad especially since it was the 80's and that style (and the not-so-special effects) was just the way it was done. I think he would end up doing a great job if he tried again now, imagine him with any effect he needed at his fingertips.

He didn't enjoy the process with that particular movie, but it wasn't because of the job of directing per se. I think it was more a matter of the personalities involved.

I thought MO was genuinely scary, at least as a kid. That freaky clown semi terrified me!

Sure it was cheesy, but that doesn't mean it wasn't any good.

I really would enjoy it if he did direct more movies. I like his style.

I thought it was a good movie and was directed well. I will admit it has been a long time but ALL the 80's movies look a bit cheesy compared to today. He did have the foresight to put Lisa Simpson in the movie before they created the Simpsons. That clown truck and the soundtrack were just awesome!!

You know, this movie was a case of "the-movie's-better-than-the-book" for me. It was based on one of Stephen's short stories, and I liked most of them; but not this one. The movie, however, I enjoyed very much. I agree, Stephen should have directed more. I realize there is a lot of Hollywood politics involved on this point; but, nevertheless, it should have been the case. Hope all have a very Happy Thanksgiving Week!
