The Dome-creators being children was something that I found interesting and very orginal-series Star Trek; I didn't mind it because, as usual, King made the journey to that end an enjoyable read (probably the shortest thousand-page novel I've ever read, heh!).
It occurred to me later, after finishing UtD, that the Dome could also have been created by King himself. Instead of children finding some "ants" and putting down the Dome to see what happens, you have the Author creating these people, this town, populating it with some good folks and some true horrors like Big Jim, Carter, and Junior, the Chef, etc. Then down goes the Dome and let's see what happens! In fact, let's even turn the screws a little with important things going missing (like the folder of evidence against Big Jim) and then a lot (the explosion and the fire). And then, finally, one of the characters just up and begs for mercy. "Don't kill us! We're real!"
(Which, oddly, also makes me think of the Whos in Whoville screaming from their speck on the clover: We are here, we are here, we are here!)
Note that I have no problems with the Dome-creators being kids; this was just an alternate possibility that crossed my mind later.![]()
