There is no box set because the books are published by two different publishers.
One of these days y'all ought to try to figure out how to get the rights (or whatever it is) to make a complete, if not boxed at least matching set. I'd love to have that and I know a lot of other people would too. It's a modern classic and deserves to be presented as such, not to mention that it messes with my aesthetic to see it mix matched etc.
Besides that the first two cost an arm and a leg if you want the hard covers, I know that for sure... and you will know me by my hopping around on one leg and my floppy right sleeve.
Hi,
However, this s not the case in the UK, where Hodder publish the entire cycle of DT, as witnessed by their excellent paperback covers.
Could Hodder not be 'nagged' into producing a collectors edition in English, or are pulbishers still jealously guarding their 'turfs' while the world has become a global village whether they like it or not?
Long days and pleasant nights
Yes, that's true, Hodder does have the publishing rights for all 7 books. I should have said in the U.S./Canada there are two publishers. Perhaps when the rights expire from Viking/Penguin for the first 4, there will be the possibility for a box set through Scribner. Even if they decided to do a box set, Hodder would not be allowed to distribute the books in the U.S. and Canada, though, because of restrictions in the publishing agreements so anyone wanting to order one through them would have to do it through one of their retail distributors.
Donald M. Grant Publisher is the only one that I'm aware of that has the right to do a limited/collector's edition and even they would have to come back to Steve for permission to do any future print runs. I don't think Steve would give permission to another publisher to do so out of loyalty to Donald M. Grant.
Hi,
Completely understandable loyalty and Donald Grant publishes beautiful editions.
Could not he be 'nagged 'into publlshing a reasonably priced colllector's edition for world wide distribution?
And Sai King not convinced that there was a market for them?
Long days and pleasant nights
I may be wrong but I think that would violate agreements Stephen has with his other worldwide publishers.
Gosh all these scruples in here make a bibliomaniac feel a little shameful and avaricious for thinking "agreement a schmeement, loyal schmoil" I want me bleedin' matching set. I only thought that for a few seconds and I'm over it now.
I have nothing but admiration for people who keep to their word and honor promises.
But do let us know if he changes his mind.![]()
Patricia. You sound a little bit like Calvin Tower.
Just teasing. I think a box set would be nice too.
Check bettsbooks.com ,veryfinebooks.com, there are matching number sets -but if you have the cash resources-act now. Long Days and Pleasant Nights. As the Tibetans say it is nice to want, having is problematic. E. Freemantle aka Beambounder![]()
