What happened to the guy in the beginning?

Did I miss this, or did Stephen leave an opening for later addition - in the beginning, Barbie met a man, who was on the other side of the dome (I don't recall his name, and I don't have the book here with me) - but they sort of agreed to meet up after the dome had cleared....seems to me that could have made a perfect "afterward", a closing chapter to the book - also, to find out what happened to Ollie and his new friend, etc. I LOVED the book - my second only favorite to "The Stand".

i guess we'll just have to assume that those events will/or have come to pass, Uber. the guy from the beginning would have to have been independently wealthy or something to stick around by the dome, waiting for it to lift...and then, with all that ordnance going off, dunno if i'd want to be anywhere near, either, even if i could afford it, plus that guy, bono is it?...wasn't around to serenade the onlookers.
