Default What a waste of time

I read one of the large print versions. After 1413 pages, you would think the ending would take more than 2 pages. I GOT it...there were bad people in the town...teenagers should not be cops...there were bad people in town...teenagers should not be cops...etc...etc...etc. I GOT that in the first 200 pages. And then after so many minutes of my life, it winds down to children can be cruel, pick up your toys and go away???? This one should have stayed in 2007 or it could have been done better AND shorter, or just shorter. I hope his next book starts in 2010 and is less than 500 pages.

    Hi,

Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!

    Totally disagree with you, though.

    Hi.

Yeah, I also GOT what you wanted to say right away, just by reading the title of your thread.
How about following your own advice then ?

    Welcome to the board.

What you considered a waste of time, others may have considered time well spent. There were more points made within UTD than just bad towns people and teenage cops. Sorry you missed them.

You obviously are not a fan of UtD, that's cool. But what's funny to me is that you seem to be really ticked off, life's too short to get mad about books being too long.
If you like short stories why don't you try Just After Sunset. That's my personal favorite.
I hope you find your happy place in his next book.
    Welcome to the SKMB btw.

i'd say give hearts in atlantis a shot, york. in particular, the section on bllind willie. after that, maybe IT, and pay particular attention to the window metaphors. than again, considering that you might not have given udt the chance it deserves, maybe these suggestions will fall on deaf ears. i mean well. i think there's some real interesting connections between these books and it'd be worthwhile taking a look at them. give it time. maybe come back to it at some other time. or not. either way, no reading at all is worse then taking a look at something. welcome to the board.

Let me get this right ??? You were captivated enough to read all 1413 pages (not sure which book you had...thought it was just under 1100) then decide that it was a waste of time. wtf....I cant say that has happened to me. I catch on that a book sucks after 100 to 200 in. Try Blaze...reading it right now and enjoying it.

I'm figuring since (s)he read a large print version that would account for the discrepancy in page numbers.
I wasn't 100% sold on UTD either but I still completed it. Otherwise I couldn't very well pass comment on something I had not seen through to the end. Plus I've not gave up on a King novel yet and have no intention of starting now. Blaze is a great story, as are HIA and IT Bluey, good recommendations.

I really loved this book, but it took me six days to read it. I kept getting interrupted by my husband saying "when are you gonna make dinner". It's one of my new favorites. Be happy all.

I watched the movie "Titanic" and after 3 1/2 hours, the ship sank, I get that.....wait, I knew that going and and still watched it. If you want short and sweet, I'm not sure but maybe Reader's Digest still publishes condensed books, but I think for the rest of us UTD is more about the ride that gets us to the end.
