    Default RIP Robert B. Parker

Here's to the reviver of hard boiled gum shoe fiction. The creator of one of the greatest detectives in fiction Spenser is gone. I have enjoyed everyone of his books. He will be missed. He has come to the clearing at the end of the path.

One of my favorite writers -- I've been reading his books for three decades, though not as much recently. Died at his desk doing what he loved most, according to reports.

I will miss reading about Spencer and Hawk and The Jessie Stone characters. Truly a great writer with a dry sense of humor.

Like most detective fiction with recurring characters it is the feeling of visiting old friends. I always feel comfortable reading Spenser. His strict moral code and the humourous interplay with Hawk. Parker's spare yet vivid prose is always a treat.
In an interview I heard that he never has to do revsions, that what is on the page is the only draft. Also he said that he is always 5 or 6 books ahead of his current publication. It is a bittersweet consolation that we will probably have books for a few more years.

Sorry to see him go. Just received "The Professional" and it will be the next book I read. After that, more feeding of the SK fix. I just re-read IT and will re-start TheTalisman soon followed by Black House.
