I just finished this book last night . . . and I came away from it feeling that not everything was right. There were some parts of the book that I absolutely loved, but some things were just really "meh."
Like, for instance, there were some characters who I loved by the end of it. Scarecrow Joe, Norrie, Benny, Rusty, Julia, and Thurston were all characters that I really liked, and I loved to hate Big Jim Rennie and Junior. The scene where Sammy killed Frank and Georgia was awesome, and probably my favorite part of the book. I hated Georgia, and seeing her die was very satisfying.
However, there were some things that just didn't sit right with me. For such an evil guy, I thought Big Jim's death was fairly anticlimactic. I really wanted to see him die in a confrontation between Barbie's gang and the police. I also felt that the ending, with the big explosion was a little, I dunno, over the top? I enjoyed reading about the dynamics between the citizens of Chester's Mill more so than the science-fiction aspect of the Dome, so seeing all those characters die just didn't sit right with me.
However, the scenes with Ollie and Ames we're extremely sad, and Visitor's Day made me tear up a little a lot.
Overall, I liked it, but I kind of was hoping for a more satisfying ending.
