The ending is up for interpretation.I was not surprised at all.I knew that was to be his lot.As Mr King said it felt right..I enjoyed seeing Roland grow as a person.I feel he learned what he needed to learn.I think his Ka has changed because he learned his lesson the hard way.I know things will be different for now he has that which was lost.
Chide Roland to the dark tower came

    define good?
King rarely lets his characters live happily ever after, so it probably doesn't come as a shock that it's not all peachy.
I was outraged the first time I finished the series. The second time it was bearable. And so far, I feel better about it the more often I read it

For me the ending was perfect. I can't imagine a different ending then the one we got. Before I even flipped to the last page I KNEW and would have been disappointed if it would have ended any other way!! But like others have said, it's not the ending but the journey!

( Do not read any threads on DT. You'll spoil it for yourself.)
The Journey is more important than the destination.

you will find bits in all the books that you don't like, but you will ultimately enjoy the ending

I don't know if the second matrix movie ruined the ending of the series for me or put it into perfect perspective. Outside of my like (or dislike) of the ending, it was right. It was what Roland deserved. I thought from the first book that he deserved the deepest pits in hell. It's not that I don't like Roland (I loved him as much as anyone who read the books and hoped) but even when I was thinking about how much like Roland I would love to be, I kept thinking "Jake. What about Jake?" So, whether I like it or not, the ending was completely appropriate and completely unsatisfying. It was good in writer's sense but (no offense Mr. King) a total cop out in a believer's sense. Roland got what he deserved. And I don't think there was really anything at the top of the tower anyway. Just a roof. Sure you can see your house from here, but here is just a old roof full of dust and bird ****. Give it up Roland and do what people are meant to do. Love.

Go to the back of the class, Roland. You can try again tomorrow. I think that's why I never envied Shane or Eastwood or Batman or any of the "dark" heroes. They are trapped in the thought that it all has to end soon. Why would you want it to?

I was blessed enough to be able to buy all seven books of The Dark Tower series at once. Because of it I became so entranced that I caught myself speaking like Roland on occasion and when I dreamt at night it was always about the books. The entire time I read these books I had a friend telling me I would hate the ending and I said "That's fine, but let me discover it for myself." Well, I got to the ending and couldn't have dreamed of a better way to end it. It's apparent that Stephen King put his heart and soul into that series and I felt like it would be a total kick in the face of the author to call it anything but good. I spent well over a hundred dollars on all of those books and everytime I go to my bookshelf I see them lined at the very top and it's nothing but inspiration to me.

Hi, all, first time here, mad SK fan.

Can't tell you the ending is "good." I'll probably need to re-read the DT series several times more before I form an opinion on the ending. But the books are wonderful, and there's a lot to love in all of them, IMO.

It's the only way it could have ended. I thought it was great. Ka is a wheel.
