I was thinking about the idea that if Big Jim Rennie and the sheriff are characters based on George W. Bush and Cheney, is it possible that the riot that took place at the food Mart (Orchistrated by Rennie) is sort of like a 9/11 for Chester's Mill, just on a smaller scale and if that is so, is Stephen King maybe suggesting that 9/11 may have been staged by Cheney/Bush?

I thought the whole book was a microcosm of what is right and wrong with American politics. You have your basic bent officials who are good at watching their own backs and putting a spin on themselves and anyone who goes against them. Bush was not the first and probably won't be the last. unfortunately just on a big enough scale to screw with more people than Big Jim. I have to say that as much as I loved the people I met in Chesters Mill and the premise and story I was dissappointed in the end. What did you think?

I didn't find anything to suggest the food mart riot was intended to imitate 9/11.
That was a terrorist attack in which thousands of innocent people were killed. The riot may have been orchestrated by Rennie but it was only meant to cause panic and distrust amongst the people. No~one was intentionally killed or trapped inside a burning building with no route of escape. The people chose to go inside the food mart, and could also leave by any of the exits whenever they desired. A choice not offered to the victims of 9/11.

I thought the ending was okay. My real enjoyment was in the story itself. Although, I didn't particullary "like" any of the characters. I mean, Colonel Cox was pretty worthless, all he did was yap on the phone and possibly create more confusion than Rennie, and the signed paper by the President only made Dale's life harder and I found it pretty idiotic on his part to go along with it. The best character was Big Jim, mostly because of how much I hated him.

I really liked the ending it was real age of Horus stuff, kids meddling with what they dont fully understand sort of reminds me of the human race.It gave me hope that perhaps we can survive.

naw, changed my mind. folk give way too much credit to cheney/bush. on the one hand, they're bumbling idiots; otoh, they're criminal masterminds. which one is it?
